GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One

After years of development, Silence is finally ready to launch and we have been able to complete it to share our impressions with you. Unfortunately, despite its undeniable charm, the game is not as memorable as we expected it to be. Here's why.

Verdict

To put it bluntly, Silence has disappointed us a lot, not just because it's a short game overall, but because its story feels completely rushed and its gameplay mechanics are a bit too simplistic for adventure fans. Although it is perfectly ok to have given up the "hardcore" point and click aspect of the first game, we still wonder why Silence feels like an introduction and a conclusion combined, without the full story development in between. The paradox is that the very reason for our frustration and disappointment with the game is that we just adored its universe and art style. Visually splendid, Silence is somehow a diamond in the rough we would have liked to see a lot more polished when it comes to its main plot. Of course, considering what the world of Silence is, it was probably hard to make a different story out of it, but whether you have already completed the first game or not, there won't be any real surprise or plot twist, which is a bit of a shame. Maybe it would have been wiser to create a brand new universe instead of making a sequel. Maybe we are just too demanding. In the end, despite everything we said, we can't advise you not to buy this game, as there is a definite charm to it which is worthy of your time. All we can say is, don't expect too much from it. It's a beautiful piece of art whose narrative falls short. We were hoping Silence would make a noise, but as it turns out, what we got was more a cute whisper. Something its very title may have been hinting at right from the start...
  • On the plus side
  • Incredibly gorgeous
  • Artistically and aesthetically sublime
  • Good voice acting and soundtrack
  • The game world and its characters
  • Renie
  • On the downside
  • Too easy/simple
  • So short
  • It doesn't feel like a true adventure
  • Loading times can be a bit long between 2 screens
  • The 2 endings' nasty trick

Note:

As usual, for the full review, head over to the French side.
