If you are into virtual road trips, you're not without knowing that a new PC beta for The Crew started a few days ago. Ubisoft gave away a good number of codes but if you haven't been able to get one or if you're waiting for the console beta in September, here are four videos we captured during an hour long free ride session with two unknown gentlemen drivers. Obviously, the game is not as visually and technically impressive as we'd hope, but aside from the technical flaws of this beta, the size of the map and its variety offer some great moments across this condensed version of the US. The world Ivory Tower created is very lively, with pedestrians, a lot of traffic in urban areas and wild animals, and this might be where the game will stand out when compared to other games of the genre. Most importantly, driving is fun, especially when you have a bunch of friends around, and it's nothing like the NFS series.

A few more things

• Videos were captured in hardcore mode with a 360 controller.

• The red Camaro is the full stock version of the car.

• We uncapped the beta's frame rate to enjoy some 60 fps smoothness to capture the videos but our computer sometimes had a hard time maintaining a perfectly steady frame rate because of Mirilis.

• Sound is 5.1 in the videos and always will be for all our PC captures from now on (should you choose to download our footage that is).

Yeah pop-in is prevalent in this but it is an ambitious open world so ill happily overlook it.
Anyone know when console beta starts? I registered ages ago but heard nothing since.

I'm enjoying the game so far. Yeah the handling is terrible at times but I'm getting used to it.

Yeah the handling is terrible at times but I'm getting used to it.

Playing with the XB1 pad.. feels much better than TDU. It aint perfect, but after some upgrades, it plays okay. The game has a lot going for it, beyond the car handling. I have enjoyed the beta a lot. I'm mostly disappointed by the low level cap. I want more missions! :)

i don't know why these guys don't just use shadowplay, it barely hits the frame rate and the quality of the captures is really good, i use shadowplay all the time now (previously used MSI Afterburner).

No worries, unfortunately that stupid site won't accept yahoo accounts, and I wasn't going to create a new one just for a key.

It was uncanny that I got a response the same day as this post, and that was from the first beta!!

It's better to capture with another device all together. Then there's no impact on performance. A lot of people have asked me why I don't record or broadcast in Battlefield, but I'm not willing to sacrifice any performance.

We might have a PC dedicated to capture in the future. It only depends on the money we have left.

I wasn't being critical.. just offering a reason why one might not use shadowplay. Shadowplay does work pretty well for what it does. I imagine you guys want more control over codecs and compression anyway.

I'd love to set up a capture card on another PC, but I think I'd have refresh rate issues.

Shadowplay is not good enough for our standards. Mirilis (or even Fraps) give better results (and oddly, smaller files in the end). The videos captured with Shadowplay don't do too well with the way we edit and encode videos either.

It just looks pretty neat, a tad disappointed by some of the visuals and the horrendous amount of pop-ins, considering this is PC. So I couldn't imagine what the Xbox/PS4 look like. I mean I'm still failing to see what's fun about this game and where's the goal, the objective, what's going to keep me playing? Look, Dave has that new car wooo dude. Chill out m8.

There is a single player campaign with story missions (that can be played cooperatively) and tons of activities and challenges. Exploration is also a huge part of the game.

Structurally, it's very similar to other "sandbox" games, the online layer and size just expand on that.

exploration would be nice if the beta would get past that black screen after choosing to continue, ive tried everything possible to get it working and now the beta is over surely the first thing that should have been fixed was this black screen issue, there are dozens of people having the same issue too, not a very nice way to repay people for pre-purchasing the game with an incentive that you gain access to the beta only to get held up by an issue that should have been fixed months ago from the first beta!
