Square-Enix took the time to send us a nice pile of postcards from Final Fantasy XIV. They showcase beautiful bucolic landscapes, inspired artworks and a gallery of the different races of characters we'll be able to embody. For a MMORPG, the visuals are remarkable.

The combat of XI looks menu based which I HATE.
I am in Aion beta and I this is my first MMORPG and I love it, so if the combat is like that then I will look into this one...on PC.
The combat in Aion is like any other MMORPG I have seen were you click on various icons for attacks or items...etc. and your character does them in that order, fast too. My guess it won't be the same here and this game won't be free to play either like Aion which I won't bother with.

I like the art design so far. It probably looks bland or “generic” to most people but I think of it as convincing in terms of trying to be believable fantasy without being a mere copy of the middle age or Lord of the Ring.
And I think it looks good for a MMO.
Other than that I yet have to see a MMORPG that would delight me. I hope they somewhat stick to their foundation they build with FFXI, as it is quite different from other MMORPGs, but try to be more accessible and less time consuming.

This is my most anticipated game in ages, I just hope I can get into the beta, artistically its staying very similar to FF11 which is no bad thing, enviroments look very similar also.

Aion won't be free to play lol, after getting to lvl 20 in the beta I found it pretty boring to play and haven't bothered with it since.

Yea Aion is definitely not free to play.

Also, FFXI combat is only "menu based" in terms of the UI, it's a timed combat system just like most MMORPG's.

Looks fantastic.

I never cared for XI though, too Everquest-ish for my taste. I wish they would have made completely new races for this instead of using similar races from XI, kind of boring this way.

I know Aion wont be free to play, thats why I said I won't bother with Aion. but if it was free I could see myself buy it, but considering its not, I don't think about it.

If what Grift says is true about the combat then count me out on this one.

It is timed but its not turned based, there is a difference. You can keep attacking as long as your attack icons are active.

Guild Wars is not and Guild Wars 2 also going to be free as well, and yes, I considering Guild Wars "big".
And no, I don't want too much. Considering I was NEVER into MMORPGs and Aion changed my mind in its combat. As long as its not "you attack.wait.enemy attacks.wait. you attack". You can interrupt the enemies attacks anytime in Aion as long as attack images are active which I like, and I don't consider that "timed".

But once you do use the attacks you have to wait for it to "rebuilt" a few seconds, but then other attacks are available, so the combat keeps going and going.

1) Guild Wars isn't really an MMO. It's an almost entirely instanced world. There's no persistent landscape.
2) I said timed, not turned based. There's a huge difference. Timed combat is based on attack and effect cool down.

"Turn based" doesn't really belong in an MMORPG discussion. I can't think of one MMORPG that uses any sort of turn based system.

Hmm, well like i said before, Aion is my first MMORPG so I don't know much about the genre, but I do know what I like and dislike.
And about the "timed" I guess you could be a bit more specific so I wouldn't be specific, but now I know :)

I haven't actually played Aion yet. Hoping for a launch window trial since I missed out on all beta opportunities and I'm not likely to pre-order an MMO.

Most of my MMO loving friends are.. well.. loving it.

It's too bad this is another dull MMO. I wish Square would just stick to making proper Final Fantasy games - I was gutted when I saw this announced at E3 only to see at the end of the trailer that it was an MMO.

I have always loved the visual package and layout of the game...but the game play for XI was god aweful. So, if they fixed the lvling and group dynamics (ergo at lvl 10 i can no longer solo and get raped by bunny rabbits) then i would definitely be on this one.

No to pull Snoopers legs but man, no every single PS3 game looks beautiful. This one looks average to be fair... Oblivion level (which looks dated already) I know it's a MMORPG but there's nothing to brag about in these screens.

The Art direction is probably good but that's to be expected in all FF games.

Kind of obvious the top shots are. There are also in engine renders of the characters floating somewhere on the internet.

I'm mildly interested in this. If there is honestly a deep storyline on par with the other main title Final Fantasy's (which the producers claim), I may have to check it out.

IF they fix the user interface in this version then maybe, but considering how terrible the user interface is for FF11 PC is.... well yeah, ULTRA terrible worst possible I've seen in an MMO; was tedious and what got me to not play more then 10 hours or so after buying it at launch.

Haven't actually tried XI, just watched gameplay videos and it looks boring as hell. The thing is, this is not an expansion, its a whole new game and here is hoping it turns out to be better. Probably 80% of XI players still like it just because they are fans of the series, so i can really see this game selling in millions and getting praised all over the PS3 community.

I'd say there is only one traditional (XIII), this and a game we still don't know anything about (at least gameplay-wise). But of course, this comes from a man that has only played one FF, namely VII to nearly half of the first disc.

Uncharted 2 looks beautiful .

Actually, comparing this anyother MMO out there, this is really beautiful, though maybe a little uninspired. But, if you compare it to what other upcoming MMOs look like...
