While PC players are more pissed than ever at Valve for wanting to release Left 4 Dead 2 so soon, some new images showing some coop action frenzy have just been released.

I don't even understand why there's a sequel coming at all. It had me rather stunned when I first heard it. Valve has always been a company to update and renew games with new options, maps and add-ons through additional downloads. What's in this new game that couldn't be done as an update?

Though thinking about it as I'm writing this, when I was an avid Team Fortress Classic gamer the updates became rather sparse after a while, even well before the TF2 announcements came in.

Still haven't played the first L4D, although I think it really would be my thing. Need a new PC first and get some mates interested in the game first. Guess I'll wait for part deux now.

should be a free add-on or very cheap expansion pack. Nothing else. Such a kick in the balls.

Its a sequel, go tell that to FIFA and Madden.

Looks like more of a step backwards than a step forwards. Some gameplay videos of levels set during daytime in the sun look so boring and dull compared to how exciting and tense the first game was.

Well ... I remember it was not too long ago when people were pissed because there was DLC in the first place. Now they are pissed because there's not enough DLC? EA releases new versions of their sports games every year and nobody seems to be pissed about that. There's a new Call of Duty each year and nobody complains. So what exactly is the problem?

The reason people are so pissed is valve claimed they would add all sorts of new stuff over time to L$D and they just didnt. The game released with very little content, regardless of replayability, its essentially the multiplayer portion of any other game, a handful of scenarios that are essentially the same each playthrough and take maybe an hour a piece.
People were promised that although the game at release was a bit pricey for the content that they would be reimbursed over time for their initial investment...it just didnt happen. Thats why im glad i waited for one of their 50% deals.

This "sequel" is just the first game with a fresh coat of paint, valve already had people fall for thier tricks once and i dont see many people buying this at full retail again. Especially as it will split the community in 2 and essentially kill the first game if it becomes popular.

Left 4 Dead on the 360=Huge hit, and this is why a full priced sequel is being pushed out, console gamers don't mind sequels year after year (while those who buy Valve games arn't used to this), and obviously Valve decided to take advantage and milk it while screwing those who bought the game with the promise of new characters, weapons, levels, enemies etc 95% of that will now be in the sequel and those who were on the fence about buying the game but bought it thinking they would be getting alot of additional content as promised by the developer at launch have been robbed.

I like how they still promise content for the original when they pretty much sealed the fate of the original's online multiplayer by creating a sequel

That post on gossipgamers is in no way, "Valve's response." Those are quotes pulled from different interviews at E3 and injected into their own half-assed "news" piece. Oh.. and the group is well over 20,000 members now :P

It's way early i think but then again organizing a boycot seems a little silly as well. If they want to release a game every 6 months that's their own business, you don't have to buy the game and if people don't want it they'll know. If people do however want it i think it's only fair that they release as often as possible. The sad truth is that cash is king. Super king.

That's a tad sad and extreme in my honest opinion. I guess that's the price Valve pay for being such an 'honest' developer in the past though; after releasing free and cheap expansions for their previous games, fans think it's their 'right' for Valve to do this for every game they release.

Like many others, I was initially annoyed at the announcement of a sequel so soon after the first game - especially given the lack of support for L4D. But, after reading all the new features which have been added for L4D2, I think it's safe to say that it'll be a full game in its own right.

Blm, its not only that, part of the sales pitch by valve themselves was that they would be adding new weapons, characters, scenarios and enemies through the life of L4D. They knew it was lacking in content to justify the starting price but they reassuered the pc community that they would be supporting it well to make sure the players got value for money.

Yeah, people have every right to be pissed at that. But the fact is that this is going to be a game in its own right; Valve isn't releasing some half-arsed game to cash in, although it still counts as a cash in anyway. I can understand people being annoyed at the lack of promised support for the first game, but I've heard some gamers demanding that L4D2 be free or released at a very cheap price. That sounds farcical to me.

Who knows? Maybe from now until the sequel's release, Valve might release some more content for the first game - unless people have heard otherwise?

Oh, and believe me, I'm in no way intentionally standing up for Valve. I mean, I'm equally pissed at them for their lack of support towards L4D, especially when you consider their track record. I just think some people are going a little overboard with their reactions.

Call of Duty is a weak example because that is two different teams and each game has a development cycle of two years which ensures a minimum level of content and quality (regardless of how people feel about the series). It also delivers a real SP mode and the MP is as feature rich as L4D. There is simply no way to get around the fact that , Valve planned their content very poorly (or deliberately) and considering how many complained about the lack of content in the first L4D, the content in the sequels should complement and expand it, NOT replace it.

It should be an expansion, end of story.

Valve might still release content for L4D, but it will be nowhere near to the extent that they promised (and now lied) about since most of it will go into the sequel.

After the reviews, I felt the first one was only half a game so I refused to buy it. I like Valve but when they wrap their product in a 20 ounce container and fill it with 10 ounce of product I have to say: no, thanks!

yeah alot of people arent happy at this... but then people have no problem lapping up a fifa every year.. why should this be any different? I think the shock has really come from the fact that is Valve.. but then people should have faith in valve, they go out of their way to support the communities they build up. So if they think this should be a full released sequel then you can put good money on it being worth that price.

One thing they do need to change though are the character models which i'm not liking at all at the moment

Boo freakin' hoo! I don't think I've ever seen so many spoiled schmucks complain about a sequel from Valve! Pathetic. Once more stuff comes out about what's going to be in the sequel, people will forget about their stupid "boycott" and end up buying the game. Or maybe I don't want you people to buy the game. I hate playing with whiney bastards anyways.
