Xbox 360

After a lot of troubles with the customs I've finally received my japanese import copy of Ace Combat 6, and I certainly don't regret buying it. I had played a bit of Ace Combat IV on the PS2 so I more or less knew what to expect, but I was still surprised by the excellent gameplay, the mostly fantastic graphics and the overall level of polish of this game. Without a doubt one of the best titles released by Namco in the last few years, I can only recommend it to everyone not afraid to vomit in front of his screen after a few himmelman turns.

A buddy of mine just got a 360, and out of all the games out for it.... get bought this... Confusing, yes, but that's what happened.

BTW, is that intro real-time? :) Looks nice.

The only non-realtime stuff is almost at the beginning of the 2nd video.

I really loved Ace Combat on the PS, whooping my cousins ass on multiplayer was the best, but i only remember playing that as a kid, as from what i remember it was one of the best games I'd ever played.

Looking at this, it doesn't look fun at all, it looks like more a chore rather then something I'd enjoy doing, maybe its just me :S.

It's not just you, the gameplay pretty much sucks. Graphics are really good though.

Completed the US version. I really enjoyed it. Great graphics. Missions feel alive with changing objectives. It definately manages to make you feel like you are in a big battle. However this is definately not a simulation, I would call it flight action game.

I have a question, when I played the demo the accelerators, decelerators were the right and left triggers, and the rudders were the left and right bumpers. This obviously makes high speed right turns a bit hard if you use the rudders, is there a way to change the controls to map the rudders to the face buttons?

Ace Combat IV is still the king. I think a lot of the AC team left Namco after finishing AC4. AC5, ACZero and this are a major disappointment compared to 4 :(

You can switch from the bumpers to the triggers. I think thats all you can do I'm not 100% sure you can customize freely

If this bores you then I guess you werent into airplanes anyways. It seems to have a good story, good quality, nice controls, and the limited gameplay I saw seemed varied and fun.

To be quite honest I was slightly shocked that this game is 360 exclusive. I sort of questioned Namco's reasons for this but I guess the sales speak for themselves.
It helped shift alot of 360's in Japan and alsmot knocked Mario Galaxy from #1 in the charts.
Its also a game that really appeals to the west and could be a system seller for a select audience.

ya i love the game it looks wicked and has a good feel to it, one thing i don't like is something that smissing that some other games had,

i used to love flying and then being able to switch to a different camera, no not just the plane camera, what i miss is the fly-by cameras that some other games had it gave a wicked feel, not to mention i wish certain aspects had a faster feel to them, flying 500ft from the ground you'd think their would be a greater sense of speed than their is

Just wondering, is he gonna get the flight pack as well, you know they sell the control stick and throttle for it as well from what i recall :)

He'll surely buy the flight stick. In fact i stopped playing AC waiting for him to finish it. Then i'll borrow the set and start it over again :)

It is quite opposite too intensive for me, i would prefer Lock on fighter with such looks.

@ BlimBlim:
the maneuver is called "Immelmann". It's named after a german fighter pilot in WW I.

I played the demo and it was just too repetitive for me plus the grey overtone which we have seen waaaaay to much in modern games just makes it look so uninviting, if i were a fighter pilot in the game i wouldn't want to protect something that looks so dull and boring.
