Xbox 360

Lionhead Studios are each week answering questions about Fable 2 that they get in their mailbox, and this week they showed some in-game rendered images of a Hobbe. You can read their short comments about the images in the link above or in the news.

Lionhead Studios comments the images with:
The latest two renders with the armour are rendered entirely with in-game models and textures, and also use the specular and normal maps . They are rendered in XSI (purely because it's a lot easier and quicker to get the exact pose and camera angle you need).

With regards to more depth - there is certainly a lot more this time around. Infact, I'd go so far to say that this really is the tip of the iceberg :-)

Aww! I love their choice of hats!

This cannot come soon enough. I like the fact that you can now jump over fences and explore properly (which was supposed to be a feature in the original Fable).

That's good enough detail for a Hobbe, they usually attack in darkly lit places and in medium to large numbers at a time.

Comparatively the Hobbes are runts compared to the Mangalores from 5th Element but the Mangalores aren't an original concept either.

Oooh, they look much more nifty than the 1st game, reminds me of the Darklings in THE DARKNESS where they wear human-like clothes.

Man, the shoe as a hat killed me!

Looks pretty decent, nothing special mind. I suppose it lends itself well to the Fable art style.

Looks fantastic! Though I'm more interested in seeing the animations. The demo's shown so far display mediocre animations at best. I really hope they'll drastically improve on that.

Other than that, I'm really phsyched for this one. Can't fucking wait!

They've actually shown a LOT of ingame stuff. I've seen tons of videos, from stuff like when they first showed off the 'pet dog' companion, to those official videos that go up on Live that show snippets sometimes.

There are enough specular highlights there and the Hobbe's texture surfaces are responding well enough to the light source.

No it's not that bright but as I said before this is more than enough detail for a Hobbe.

Grim,

It's needs more than just specularity. It needs specular glossiness so that the skin looks like it's not made of carpet or like a big, ugly RUG. It looks horrible right now. As an experienced shader artist, that's what I Think anyway.
