Trailer Xbox 360 PS3

Raiden lets rip once again with that new 7 minutes-long trailer of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Konami will release the demo of the game on Xbox Live and Playstation Network on January 22nd. The game itself is coming on February 19th.

Before anyone says anything. I just want to make it clear, that if the beginning dialogue in the trailer makes you go "dafuq?" it's supposed to. This is a video to show his Jack the Ripper side and Raiden coming to grips with it.

Jack the Ripper is insane and he comes out from time to time in the game. Anyway awesome video, but I think Hideo Kojima turned up the default Gamma or Brightness for some reason. It makes the video looked washed out.

They said there will be more of Jack the Ripper videos and that he has two personality stuff going on. And Kojima didnt make this game.

Personally i dont see much difference in the combat compared to the demo and this is a brand new level, sure some minor new moves such as the rapid kicks with the sword but thats about it, all of it ends with a over the shoulder cuts and a spine rip which is boring...well the over the shoulder cuts anyways.

I hope we can upgrade Raiden's body, gain new weapons (old video showed a staff of some sort), gain much more deeper moves.
Just like MGS4 this has DP points with every kill so I hope thats what they are for, and unlocking new costumes...i am not a fan of the mexican outfit.

Anyways, the demo is coming out in the west PSN/XBL with 3 different levels (unkown) so i am excited to play that and get a proper feel of the combat personally. Feedback, the tightness of the controls...etc. should be interesting.

PS. getting it for 360, custom music ftw, gonna use some NG music and some MGS tracks (and more) since i dont like any of the tracks i have heard so far.

Hideo Kojima edited the trailer. This was said when the trailer was released and there was a picture of him editing the trailer on twitter a few weeks back.

Also I am as well disappointed with them not showing any new weapons and barely any new moves (the rapid kicks isn't new), but I also saw on Kojima's twitter that a new gameplay trailer will be shown this week too.

Hopefully they will show off the customization they have been talking about and the new weapons. There are some weapons that I do know about already though: a wooden sword for no kill runs, a big stun rod, and Mistrals staff.

i didnt know then.

I for one want dual swords like Ryu has in NG2...but i want to see how they vision it for Raiden since he is much more stylish using swords.

I actually laughed when you said you don't see much difference in the combat and proceeded to state it's a brand new level almost as if a brand new level would radically change the combat.

With regards to the blade mode (or over the shoulder cuts and a spine rip), it's one of those oddly satisfying things that seems boring but never gets old, after playing the demo every day since it's release with the ZOE HD collection, blade mode has become an intuitive mini-game that lends itself well to the water-tight mechanics of the fighting system.

Rather than bandy on about the game in it's own right, I believe a comparison would sum it up better: I'd have to say that I haven't played a game as visceral and compact (with regards to gameplay) as this since Ninja Gaiden Black.

I have no idea what the left one is, but the right one looks ugly to me.

Yes brand new level means FURTHER into the game, which also means if there is any upgrade movelist system in the game we would have seen. Any person who played these games knows thats how it works.
Also, why do i say this? because the demo shows Raiden being deployed into his first mission with tutorial, now that could be demo purpose but thats what i am gonna believe for now.

For me it will be boring to "aim" go into over the shoulder and cut and then aim the line to the square just so i can use the spine rip move. It might be fun for you but I already got bored seeing it and probably doing it by watching the videos. And if one gets bored of seeing it constantly doing it doesnt matter, atleast to me.
But the spine rip animations is awesome, those dont get old IMO.

And if you havent played anything as visceral as this, play Ninja Gaiden 2 or NG3 RE on Wii U, NG Black is hardly visceral compared to those two.

You may want to check the definition of visceral and see why I chose Ninja Gaiden Black. The common misconception is that "visceral" pertains to the "violent" and judging from the games you have chosen I'm inclined to believe that is where your thought process eventually arrived.

How can I put this simply; the core combat is always going to ground the look of it into similarity unless the featured character is using a different weapon. So, if Raiden was using say Mistral's handy staff and moved as if he was using his HF Blade then you saying you don't see much difference in the combat would hold some water because it is a different weapon and hence should look radically different.

However, Raiden is using his HF Blade here, the blade that he has been conceptualized with so the comment "the combat looks no different" is incredibly moot.

Just a heads up, the demo mission is in fact the 2nd mission in the game.

Belittling but I'll let that slide as you've read what I have written above.

Are we seriously in a day and age where we judge the look of a game and equate that as to how we WILL feel playing it? What you say would hold more credence to the subject if you used more open-ended words like "seems".

I'm not going to go into depths about blade mode as you've already made your mind up that it will be boring, so, can't convince someone that knows exactly how a game plays through a series of second-hand information.

I for one am really excited about this game, I would have preferred to see more weapons which would lead to changes in combat, but Jack The Ripper is enough of a reveal for me and I can safely say that Raiden genuinely frightens me with that "I think it's time for Jack TO LET 'EM RIP!"

The challenge goes as far as the rank you're willing to achieve and while the game can be played by pretty much hitting the face buttons, you'll take damage, have your combos broken and miss your cut and take (Zandatsu) thus ending up with a B or C rank.

What I like about Platinum Games' hack n' slash action games is that they give you the necessary tools to be the strongest mother****** in the game, Bayonetta was a Goddess and Raiden is incredibly strong and it's mostly about how you use the powerful toys.

What a lot of people don't realise is that you can parry in the air which makes me feel super bad ass when achieved.

You can parry in the air? didnt know that, thats pretty awesome indeed.

Seems i will have to master the parry to survive almost everything in the game kind of like Bayonetta's split second dodge witch time feature...which I couldnt do so well hehe.

MGR is strange when it comes to points, it's not stylish so you're not rewarded for making the game look good a la Devil May Cry, you're actually rewarded more for killing quickly and efficiently.

I'm terrible, in that video I kept looking at the BP and thinking "he's about 5000 BP points behind" but he is doing a montage run and does a good job of showing most of the available combos in the demo save for two or three.

I like the fact that there are two alternative costumes and three different colour ones, a great excuse for multiple playthroughs.

You hit the nail on the head, like Bayonetta's witch time, parrying is everything in this game, it's seems crazy to make survival hinge on such mechanics but it is so satisfying when you acheive it.

He can also dodge, but it's an offensive dodge, Platinum Games said that when creating MGR they wanted Raiden always moving forward never backing down, hence all the offensive moves and the choice to prioritize parry instead of dodge.

Great!
I am a guy who loves to rush in, kill as fast and cool as possible like NG1 and 2, most go to make long combos and hits. I am kind of like a Iaido types, quick kills.

Good to know there is different costumes, though like I said, i am not a fan of the mexican one. I do want the one were his visor covers his face, the best one IMO hopefully we get that.

Anyways demo is next week so i am excited to try it :)

I think I heard something about dodge canceling from parrying, though I can't remember if it was from the block or the just guard/perfect parry though but its something I'll have to try and have a mess about with. Also that enemy hop at the start of the gameplay was quite cool

WTF air parry's - nice! It's nothing new in a game but it's still nice :D

I will admit though - it's true about parrying in Bayonetta - I wasn't able to platinum that game and clear the harder difficulties till I had mastered it - good point ... the demo was surprisingly hard but now that I think about what you guys are saying I will play it again but keep that in mind

You not a fan of the Sombrero on top of the box? Haha. I really want the costume with the visor covering his face, at the moment you can make the visor cover his face but only when AR (Augmented Reality) is on and it opens the moment he moves faster than a brisk run. :(

I know that parrying cancels out any action you're in the middle of except for ones with long animation frames, maybe that's what you heard?

@deafwing

Definitely try it again, it was a solid month of play before I felt like I had found everything the demo had to offer that was after doing multiple runs of farming BP, cutting through as quickly as possible, combo runs etc. you catch my drift.

When any of you get the chance to play it again, after you save the hostage, run after him and slice him. ;)

So do I dammitt! It'd give me an excuse to play the game so much more, I also want the hour counter of how much I've played to continue past 99 hours 99 minutes, it annoyed me that in Bayonetta it stopped there and people couldn't see how much I really appreciated the game.

More alternative outfits if you haven't seen:
