I honestly must ask, what's the appeal of this game? I have to admit that i never tried it, but neither am i really interested. But what is all the fuss about?

It's digital lego for adults. That's pretty much it.

Yeah you can't go in expecting a regular game as there's really no objctive. It's just a toy box. I don't particularly like it either, but i can understand the appeal. If i want to build something i prefer to just start up maya :P

Yeah this is more like it, i can exist in these worlds. I do love Lego it must be said, but it's more i guess because i can also wander around these created landscapes and spaces- like Lego in that one respect, the shaping of it all is very appealing while being something you can't do in most games of course. Minecraft feels very alive as well and can be absolutely huge if you want it. Very pleased it's coming over to 360

From what I've seen, it's ether getting really creative with building stuff, or tackling those monsters that only comes out at night with your buddies in multiplayer mode. Those monsters are surprisingly freakier compared to the other monsters that actually belongs to a survival horror game.

Not hate to Minecraft, but this has to be the single worst trailer I've ever seen for a game. It looks like a parody, like it's meant to mock the game. Instead of playing to the game's stengths, they've portrayed it as an ugly, obtuse, unexciting venture. Got to wonder what the Hell they were thinking.

they did that on purpose.

its not a exciting, edge of the seat game though. it is ugly and it is unexciting.. but so was Sims. not every game has to have explosions

saying that i have no interest in buying this game lol but i see the appeal of it for the creative minds out there

Well, obviously they did it on purpose. That's kind of my whole point. The trailer focused solely on how ironically ugly and boring the game is, and didn't make any attempt to juxtapose that tongue-in-cheek presentation with some exposition of the game's stronger points. Maybe it will please the fans the game has already garnered, but the purpose of the advertisement (and I imagine the console release itself) is to expand the base to people who aren't familiar with the game.

I feel like they should have gone in precisely the opposite direction. An initially bored and unimpressed audience. "Why is it so ugly?" BAM! flyover of an expansive landscape. "Is it just a bunch of rocks?" BAM! a thousand unique block types blaze across the screen in three seconds. "I dunno it just seems too quiet..." BAM! hoard of whatever those zombie things are.

I dunno. I'm not a Minecraft player or an advertising expert. All I know is that the impressionable knee-jerk idiot inside me told me that ad sucked balls.

At least is something different. In generation where 80% of the games are shooters, that is a good thing.

Considering how well Minecraft has done so far without fancy trailers with explosions etc they probably know what they are doing.

Plus Notch is a part of the Swedish ironic generation, its a Swedish thing.

Thing is, something like this is just more exciting to some people. The idea of going around Skyrim say, casting spells and exploring the stunning landscapes, all while battling Dragons etc, it sounds great to me but i just know i can't get into those games. Not to mention how i don't feel connected to these worlds in a way that a simpler looking one like Minecraft really draws me in

I suppose it's because the more realistic games try and be, the more they expose what they can't be at this point technically speaking ie these aren't really as advanced worlds as you could hope for regarding how they function realistically and it's there i get pulled out of the experience. There isn't that expectation from someone that enjoys Minecraft because it's a different type of fantasy, one that allows the imagination to fill in any gaps- Skyrim's gaps are those things that will contrast with the exceptionally crafted world- for me at least

For me in Minecraft it feels very much more like i'm part of a living world than the one you see in Skyrim. I get to create worlds and what little there is in the way of life around me - pigs etc - it's enough to make me feel like i'm there. This despite how it's much less a game both visually and regards to what i can get up to in it. Incredibly created worlds will one day be incredibly dynamic as well in a way that isn't what they are now, and that's when i think a game like Skyrim will blow me away.. Not slagging on Skyrim here though for those that clearly enjoy it
