Indie studio Red Barrels's promising survival horror game Outlast will be available on Steam on September 4 for $19.99. PlayStation 4 players will also be able to face what lies inside Mount Massive Asylum (at a later date) as the game was announced for Sony's console last month at E3.

I really don't like full screen "camera" views. At this point we have the technology to make the character actually hold an object up as a part of the viewmodel which can act as a view for the player while retaining immersion... Hrm.

he does hold up a physical camera, you see it when he changes batteries.

anyway, visually looks pretty awful, but it looks intense as hell, like a next gen condemned. and it's a budget release with a budget price, hopefully it's on the PSN store come the PS4's release.

Looks pretty good for a handful of people, a downloadable, in a genre that "the big guys" have abandoned.

Would be great if it was on X360/bone, but I'll take PC.

I really wish I could get into more horror stuff, but I just can't stand the "jump scare".

After watching a few videos, this seems to combine a bit of the Silent Hill style ominous scares along with the Res. Evil style jump scares. The early videos were brilliant, but a lot of what was seen appeared heavily scripted. If they can pull of a game like this that is at least somewhat dynamic, I will be blown away.

I have always wanted a horror game that rewards those who are immersed and explore while giving unique unscripted moments (catching something out of the corner of your eye and wondering what you just saw). Scripted has a tendency to kill horror games for me, as I feel like I am being prodded toward the scares. That is why Silent Hill was so great. Even though it was basically all scripted, it gave enough freedom to feel like I was in control and no just watching a movie. I have high hopes that this will be well worth the $20...
