Video PC Xbox 360 PS3

As planned, the Need For Speed: The Run demo was released this morning on Xbox Live, including the two tracks shown in Cologne two months ago. You will have to forgive my poor driving on both videos but I barely had time to have lunch to be able to get you some footage this early. The second video will follow as soon as possible.
Update: Second video added.

Good, NFS Hot Pursuit (Gameplay #1) Vs. Split/Second (Gameplay #2) = NFS The Run...

not to be a kill joy, ive loved nfs games since their inception, but as of late they seem all the same to me. ie this looks pretty much the same as Hot Pursuit, and with the release of forza 4 (albeit a slightly different driving game) i dont feel like investing £40 into a slightly updated game?

I hope in the future they take a look at the franchise and realise it is dwindling somewhat

Looks decent, but to me these games are a lot like Ace Combat. They were fun 10-15 years ago, but have literally changed almost nothing since then. I just can't see playing the same exact thing I played when I was in elementary school, but with updated graphics.

Maybe I am just jaded here, but I need some kind of improvement/innovation to keep me interested in a series.

Graphically nothing to write home about, as can be seen on the video itself.

Still they are stepping into the right direction after all those street racing stuffs. This is what I remember to be Need for Speed, I can think of innovations later on when they lock this direction.

No thanks if the demo is anything to go by. Cars handle like crap and it just felt boring.

"cars handle like crap" You got to try one car, numpty.

Game is too easy, AI is stupid. Tap handbrake wiz around corners game is far too arcadey for my liking, there is a very small learning curve so it's totally noob friendly. I beat the demo first time round with only 1 crash and that was at the very beginning of the snow level.

I miss the old NFS where you could mod street cars :*(

Presentation is great, I love the camera work, and I can tell the story is going to be good. However all I care about videogames nowadays is competitive play, with game mechanics this easy, online racing will be just too repetitive and boring

By contrast I used to find the old Need for Speed games with their boy racer sleazy atmosphere repellent. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit was the first I've bought in what feels like forever, and while The Run is rough round the edges I may still pick it up somewhere down the line.

Need for Speed has always been an Arcadey game. All that "street" crap turned me off before, but this looks neat, and the Demo was pretty darn fun. I liked having to constantly dodge stuff. I also kinda like the soft look to th rendering. Does anyone else remember what racing games used to be like?

I agree they jumped the shark the street racing theme. But I would still like to see the ability to mod your car return.

Visually it's nice, and the "races" are quite intense. But the handling is stupidly unresponsive and the rubberband AI is some of the worst i've seen. Boosting is made redundant since every car increases speed while you're doing it. I'll pass.

Looks and plays inferior to Hot Pursuit, not sure why they did not just continue in that vein instead of this boring new approach.

They're doing both, I think. I seem to recall them already confirming HP2 as well.

I'm with you KORNdog, i have HATED that stupid rubber band AI and it is ALWAYS in the Need for Speed series. The last few NFS games have had horrible handling, can't say i'm too surprised this one does too. I used to thoroughly enjoy these games, just can't seem to get into them anymore. They need to bring back Burnout.
