First 10 minutes PC Xbox 360 PS3

First announced in 2006, briefly back in 2008 with a title, it is truly in 2011 that Aliens: Colonial Marines started its long and slow journey to get to our consoles and PC. After playing the first 5 missions of the game, we can say that it is pretty disappointing in most areas, even when you are a big fan. Visually dated, plagued with clunky controls (auto-aim can't be turned off and it's still almost impossible to aim correctly when using iron sight) and very poor weapon feedback, the list goes on and on. That being said, it's not the kind of game you'll stop playing once you've started it, well if you're not the demanding type that is. All in all, it is a rather mediocre title you should only play if you don't pay it full price.

Budget must have been staggering, be very unlikely to break even, have to say I had zero interest from day one, and that's a shame considering the Aliens mod for Doom was what made me buy my first ever PC many, many years ago!

Man, I wish they weren't just known for Borderlands, I've been waiting for a proper Brothers in Arms game for so long after that cliffhanger.

So this isn't a good action-horror game? Any scary moments? Should they have adapted Alien (enclosed horror like Dead Space 1) instead of Aliens (military action-horror)?

Only "scary" moment is the Fear Effect video. It's just another generic shooter, with nothing special about except its dated visuals on consoles. PC vids to come later this week.

From the very first gameplay footage I seen of this, I could tell almost instantly it was going to be a disaster, and that begs the question: if I could see it, and others could too, then why couldn't they? I think they actually believed that what they were creating was the dogs balls and canon to the films in every way, when it obviously wasn't. They released enough promo vids for it, and every time they talked it up. The problem, it seems, is that there is very few people in the industry now that know horror or how to create tension and thus creating horror. It's all blunt, dumb, gun-totting action that gets their juices flowing. "Let's make it COD in space, with Xenomorphs" must have been the mandate.

This article explains a lot, most of this game wasn't even done by Gearbox.

I'm not convinced by that at all whatsoever. Sounds like passing the buck to me, and Gearbox had more than ample time to straighten the game out, or at least inject some kind of quality into it, if indeed they were capable of doing so. They sure as hell delayed it enough times. They are out of excuses for this one after DNF, which again they had plenty of time to at least build something decent, even if what they were passed on was a bit of a mess.

Doesn't sound like passing the buck if Pitchford said 80% of it was done in-house (even if that's a lie). If it was so bad, he wouldn't credit it like that.

just because it was not done by them, should not mean they closed there eyes and let guys get on with it and not watch what they are doing, surely you would be keeping and eye on what you outsourced to others, and i find it sad that Gearbox would pass the buck, instead of taking half the blame themselves

"In space no one can hear you scream" but in front of your console or Pc they can hear your screams of pain because of the BS.

It feels as dated as Duke Nukem Forever...lousy graphics terrible controls only thing good are the soundeffects... but everyone should make his own mind up :) I loved games that got worse ratings than this one :)

I think every piece of footage showed that the game was generic and mediocre at best. This is the second Duke Nukem from Gearbox.
Strange company. They can do great games, but they are not ashamed to release crap even when they know it's crap.
Great games... made by Gearbox Software??!! let me stop laughing.

They are known for porting Halo 1 to PC and then what? some overhyped cartoon graphics fps bad imitation of Fallout?

I called it into question why they did not hire the developer that was already experienced with this type of franchise... and now its just unfortunate that despite "easy to dev for" and "7 to 8 year old mature console platforms" and their own self hype (go back and look/read at all the stuff they were bragging about) the game comes out as a Gearbox fail... I am disappointed.

Gearbox are known for one of the best, well written and tactical WW2 shooters out there, and one of the most fun co-op experiences you can have on any platform (btw, no, it isn't anything like fallout) when they do something themselves, they tend to be decent games. When they try to polish a turd (duke nukem) or get someone else to make the game (aliens), they suffer for it.

Moral of the story, they should have just made the fucking thing themselves.

Sucks, I was looking forward to this game... guess I will check out the last Alien VS Predator game again or try and play the old 2000s games. again.

So now it's ok to say this game isn't good even though "it's a cult franchise and there are many fans all around the world and that, because of us, there's a good chance there won't be any other Alien game in the future"? ^^
