To continue with the noir genre, we have a bunch of 1080p/60fps videos of Blues & Bullets, a black and white (and red) adventure game which was released a few weeks ago on PC, and will arrive on Xbox One on August 28. Much like The Walking Dead, Life is Strange or King's Quest, this is an episodic game in which your choices will affect the way the story unfolds. Although the animations (characters and faces alike) clearly look dated, we can't help but fall for the title's art style and presentation.
Impressions
It is always hard to give one's opinion on episodic games, mainly because it's impossible to be sure of what is coming next. That being said, because of its very polished presentation and art style, Blues & Bullets had us very interested right from the start. The story is promising and the gameplay mechanics - though not really challenging - work as they should. We like the fact that this feels more like an adventure game than say, the Telltale games, with investigation scenes which are a bit reminiscent of the Sherlock Holmes series. It's not perfect for sure, it looks a bit rough around the edges at times, but it's a nice surprise overall, especially after Funk of Titans from the same studio.
- On the plus side
- Very atmospheric
- Sin City like art style works perfectly
- Overall presentation
- Story seems pretty engaging
- The investigation mechanics (simple but efficient)
- Doug - Geralt of Rivia - Cockle as Eliot Ness
- More of an adventure game than your typical episodic game
- On the down side
- Animations (body and facial) are dated
- No real freedom of movement (no free cam)
- Some of the voice acting
