Video PS4

After terrorizing PC PLayers, Outlast is back for those ready to wet their pants on Playstation 4. The game is available for free for any Playstation Plus member there really is no excuse for not giving it a try, unless you're too much of a chicken to do so. 1080p/60fps videos are inside, just behind the spooky door...

This game is both super terrifying, and super frustrating (tons of trial and error). Really enjoying it so far though. And you can't argue with "free"!

Definitely can't argue with "free". I like the game. Haven't had too many problems with trial and error, but it definitely makes you think. The only frustrating parts for me are the things in the game that make no sense. Batteries that die in seconds, a camera with night vision that uses AA batteries, and the complete inability to fight back. And what is the criteria for glowing folders? He can only pick up glowing folders despite the fact there are documents laying on the floors labeled "Classified".

Still a great game so far though. Great atmosphere, great characters, and overall game flow. Not scary though. Best played in the dark with high volume so that you get just a little shocked.

Absolutely love this game - i agree there can be some frustrating aspects but I think it also adds to the game, ie the reason the batteries run out so quickly is due to the fact you need to conserve your inventory, and the inability to fight back adds to the tension.

Just yesterday I had this game cranked up on my surround sound at about 1am and i got spotted. The music stirred, i heard his breathing and footsteps drawing near and I completely panicked, running like a girl into a dark room in the corner. He came into the room and came right up to me but just couldnt see me whilst i was hiding - THATS the sort of horror experience i love.

Apart from this, i hope Amnesia games make their way to consoles - psychological horrors also scare the crap outta me.

PS - if you haven't already, play this game at night in the dark with either headphones or true surround sound - there is no turning back!

Huh, looks like it takes a lot of hits to get this one up at 60 on the PS4. That seems like a weird choice. If anything, I imagine the 30fps would be better for a horror game, as would increased fidelity.

Not certain why anybody would buy a PS4 and not get PS+ :)

I understand it adds to the tension, but I still hate those cheap, cheap batteries. Also, I'll have to try surround sound. I've been using headphones, and it's actually saved me a couple times. More than once that extra bit of sound clarity has been the difference between pulling back just in time and being ripped apart. It also makes the game that much more intense. Surround sound has to be pretty nice too.
