Don't worry, we are not going to share the video of our last BBQ with the family. A Story About My Uncle is an independent game which has just been released and after playing it for a while, we had to tell you a bit more about it.
Impressions
Platform sequences are usually a pain in first person games, so when we launched A Story About My Uncle, we were a bit concerned. Fortunately, we couldn't have been more wrong. The way Gone North Game managed to convey such amazing sensations when flowing through the air after an impressive jumb combined with the use of a grappling hook is quite an achievement. After an introductory level paying tribute to games like Gone Home, Dear Esther, Uncharted or even BioShock, you will discover a mysterious underground world in which you'll have to make good use of your uncle's creation: a suit allowing you to defy the laws of gravity. You'll encounter many challenging obstacles to discover what happened to your dear uncle, but there will never be any violence involved. A Story About My Uncle is a platformer like no other, in which the gameplay mechanics have been carefully crafted. The game conveys very good "flying" sensations, and with all the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Uncle Fred, there's always an incentive to keep playing. The graphics may not be the game's strongest suit, but overall, they're good enough to immerse you in this unique world thanks to solid art style, and that's the most important thing. Considering its price tag ($12.99/€12), you should really give it a try.
