After playing through Dead Island: Riptide, we must say we had a lot of fun once again, but we have to warn you that this new episode looks more like Dead Island 1.1 than Dead Island 1.5. Because the game plays it safe by proposing the exact same experience as the first game (minus a few additions like the nice hub defense missions), many will probably dismiss it or at least wait until a price drop. Now depending on how much you enjoyed yourself when playing Dead Island, Riptide is a good way to have your share of zombie fun this year which, after the disastrous Survival Instincts, is definitely something. Check out our videos of the PC version and don't mind the few frame drops you can see, they are due to Fraps and Mirilis Action!
Note: The PC version has no AA option, just like in the first Dead Island, and there aren't a lot of things you can tweak in the in-game menu unfortunately.

It's fine if the gameplay is the same as in the last one.
But how much time is one play-through?
The reason I am like this towards this game is, why did Skyrim get so much guff over glitches and problems and this gets a free pass?
You shouldn't run across this many glitches and horrible irregularities in a 15 hour game. I watched a friend playing the original for only half an hour and came away with tears of laughter. Even the 10 year old Source engine looks better than this mess.
Vansant : you should go for the first one I think.
But the Source engine isn't better than this broken Chrome one Driftwood? Eh no, that is a hard fact right there.
With that said I think reception for this will be mixed given the early reviews and it being more or less an expansion. I'm not sure Deep Silver will be able to build up enough steam with this franchise to warrant a next-gen sequel and that's disappointing.

I put 40 hours into the original Dead Island, and never had a single issue other than the random graphical glitch. In huge open world games, you are going to get those. It is the price you pay for more dynamic gameplay and greater options.
I personally won't be buying this, since I played the original to death and this is just a glorified expansion pack trying for a quick cash in. I did get a ton of enjoyment out of DI though, and thought it looked pretty damn impressive considering the scale. Care to explain what was so horrible as to make you despise that game? People tend to write you off if you just say something sucks without explaining why. What were the game destroying glitches you found?
I have read some of the negative reviews, and some are particularly unfair in terms of expectations. Some things which are reproached here are never mentioned in games like Assassin's Creed 3 for example, which is all the more surprising as it is also plagued with glitches and redundant gameplay (not to mention poor story). Dead Island Riptide is by no means a must buy, but it's a very decent game whose main flaw is to offer the very same experience as the previous one (wait, much like Gears of War Judgment or God of War Ascension when compared to their "elders"). And I don't see where there has ever been hype over this franchise, except a long time ago when they released their famous trailer before the first DI shipped.
I'll take an example you should understand. If you compare to your precious Ken games, Dead Island Riptide is even a true jewel, a joy to play and a technical marvel. "If a game sucks you cannot defend it anymore", how about you take your own advice? ;)
To sum up, those who liked Dead Island will enjoy Riptide, but should wait until a price drop on Steam (which shouldn't be long considering the series is not that famous among players), since this is more an add-on than a sequel. Unless the console versions are really plagued with technical issues, the same can be said about them.
