wow.

wow as in, wow so it doesn't look nothing like the reveal trailer AT ALL.

Just BFOne with a coat of paint and girls, this time?

Even the raytracing looks bad. so a new generation of horse power to do... proper SSR real-tiem reflections that means almost no visual gain? such wow.

count me out.

It "looks" like BF1 but it does not play at all like it, try the open beta to get a better idea of it.

Visually it's better, did you download the videos or watch the streams ? With the compression you lose some details, and the camera can move pretty fast so details can get lost during encoding.

It is a bit disappointing that the reveal trailer was obviously made to look extra impressive.

This footage was captured with a 1080 Ti, no raytracing is enabled.

Also the reveal used specific camera angles/movements, and was made to look impressive. If you look at details in this beta it's not far at all.

It was a trailer, not gameplay bits like this.

BF might have gone down the shitter somewhat since BF3, but theres no denying they know how to make their games look pretty. and that sound! still industry leaders in that regard.

Not a Battlefield fan as way to arcadey for me and respawny (would love a Harcore 16v16 mode) but the beta plays really well. Slowed the game down a bit no more 64 Usain Bolts running atound like crazy and it plays way better for it.

Battle Royale mode could be very interesting!

That's where I'm at. It's MUCH better than BF1 and I think we're only scratching the surface.

Favorite Battlefield? Probably not... but it's doing some amazing stuff. The gunplay is great.

BF4 is better than BF3 in about 90% of the ways you could evaluate it. I love Battlefield 3 but BF4 has some core improvements (objective improvements) that are just too hard to ignore. Battlefield 1 isn't as good.. but "down in the shitter" may be a bit an overstatement too.

Played for another couple of hours last night, Really love it. Best respawny shooter i've played in years. It also looks bloody incredible on my LG OLED infact i'd say the PS4 Pro has a new best looking game on release! Only problem is HDR on the Beta seems broken as it doesnt save the brightness and dark areas are way to dark.

Hardcore mode should be even better when released! F**K it Dice has a sale!

The game is OK. That's it. Just OK.

It's fun for a quick blast, but nothing about it is sucking me in. It just feels more of the same. Formulaic. All this talk about it being "the most immersive Battlefield yet" was bollocks. There's one or two things in there that tries to encourage team play, like the limited ammo, class balance and that, but it still suffers from the same shite as the rest, as in players just don't seem to care and just lone wolf it. The building of forts and structures seems pointless from what I've played so far. I think I saw one player do it once and that was it.

EA are slowly eroding this series into the ground. It feels like they want to compete too much with COD, and therefor feel like they have to cater to that demographic and release what feels like a new game every year. It's getting played out now, and is in need of it reinventing itself, but I suppose adding women and funky customisations is their idea of that.

I agree that things haven't been consistently good at DICE, but if anything this game pushes everything away from the COD mentality that the fan favorite Bad Company actually initiated in the first place. I see it as a solid sequel to BF1. It's much better than BF1 already, just given the gunplay, game mode design, and push towards attrition.

Building is probably more common than you think. In conquest flags are getting fortified frequently. As in every round I play. I don't build (because I'm playing assault and medic) but I appreciate that it adds another layer to the sandbox. There are flags that are dead open on Norvick without fortification for example. Or the central flag under the train bridge on the Dutch map.

The best start to any BF game in a long time. I want the option to default to the deploy screen instead of the squad spectator cam though. It's a neat idea but I don't think it's a good execution. You lose valuable information about what's happening by not viewing the deploy screen.

You can build if you're not playing support, it's just a little longer to build and you can't build some bigger things.

I know, I just don't think I need to if my team's support players are playing their role.

Enjoying this beta a lot more than I did BF1's. If feels strangely modern. Like they've just ignored all the WW2 trappings of slower, more innacurate weapons in favour of just making it feel good to shoot dudes. I like the little bits of banter when you're running around in a group. And the movement and shooting feel good. The building seems cool too. And it's definitely used in a lot on the games I've played so far, even if I haven't touched it myself. Team play feels largely accidental though. Like when a few squads just happen to to be moving towards the same objective. Otherwise it just doesn't feel like it's happening all that much. Which I guess is the lone wolf thing mrwhite mentioned. But that's my general experience with random matchmade games in BF anyway. So it's nothing new.

Doubt I'll buy it until it's cheap. But it seems pretty good.

The player base on the PC side is probably a lot different.I've played the last couple BF's on PC, and this one is the first on a console I've played since BC2. I still really don't know what to make of it, if I like it or not. Maybe it'll click, but so far there's a lot in there that I don't like, and some braindead design choices like having to top up extra ammo at crates, which for my experience, had me run out of ammo regularly in pitch battles around a capture point, then die because I'd to use a pistol. They're trying to force team work, but that's only a romantic idea that just does not apply all the time during a round. It's a poor decision and hopefully they try a different method to keep teams supplied. The other big issue I have: the maps, and the lack of vehicles in them therein. This only exacerbates the ammo situation, and it's leading to the game feeling very chaotic, run and gun, you shoot me, I shoot you. I die, I respawn. Vice versa, no real method. The Rotterdam map could be a good one if they put an emphasis for vehicles on there, and maybe had a levolution feature from BF4 where you either had to destroy or fix the bridges in order to advance. That's the thing. Seems like this game had, or has, massive potential, but it's being squandered. My other big gripe is that it just doesn't feel like a WW2 game. It feels too modern or something. Like if Michael Bay and Chris Nolan did a collaboration on what they thought happened during WW2. I don't mind the odd liberty being taken, but when you pick up a weapon and it has a reflex sight on it that looks more modern and futuristic than a modern warfare shooter, then that's a problem.

Yeah, the shooting mechanics are good. They've got that right at least. I know it's a beta, but I don't know. It just feels off. As you say, and I said in the previous post, it feels like a modern shooter. Some of the aesthetic design choices are just fucking weird too. Takes you right out of it. They should have went the whole hog and did what they did with BF1 and made it abundantly clear it's an alternate reality WW2.

Tbh, I actually like that it feels modern and in some instances even looks modern. The funky aesthetics are great and inject some character into what would otherwise look completely derivative. My initial worries about this game when it was first announced was that it was WW2. after BF1 I don't think the older time periods work very well, and I was hoping V was going back to modern military. But they've found a nice middle ground. It plays modern but looks old...sometimes. And that's perfect to me. But it is also a bit weird because it's asks the question...why make it WW2 at all if you're mechanically going to ignore the elements that feel like an 1940's war? I'm not looking for authenticity or realism, I mean, we're talking about a game that lets you jump out of a jet, snipe someone, free fall back to your jet and start flying again. But I would have thought there would be more in there to justify the setting choice and there doesn't seem to be.

My main complaints...and this has been the case with BF since BF4. Is the classes. They never quite feel right. I miss a stand alone engineer class for instance. Now it's just been shoehorned into assault. I don't like certain aspects of the weapon upgrade system. Like why has it become a "this or that" skill tree? I also don't like that you have to manually redeem your unlocks for weapons. Like...why have this unnecessary step? And as grift said, I don't like that it defaults to squad following after a death. It should default to the map screen. Also, is this the extent of the weapon options or is it just because it's a beta? It makes it look like incredibly slim picking per class.

There's a lot to like. But it feels a bit too safe. But out of all the upcoming MP games it's definitely the one I'm the most into. It's still a unique thing in the MP space and it captures the frantic panic of ground warfare better than anything else on the market.

Absolutely not. There's never been a Battlefield beta with all of of the actual gadgets and weapons. There are sub-classes in this game too. This is a very small fraction of that content. I don't mind the skill tree. If they double down on an actual attachment system I think it will be too much, but it basically is a refined version of that system. It just gives people a more clear upgrade path instead of confusing people with attachments. I don't care about that progression layer at all but obviously people like it.

I still think these roles need tweaking but I don't completely expect them to stay as-is. They've already changed the medic and assault loadouts from the alpha. The rifle grenade is borderline useless and they need a better gadget to fill that slot. And it doesn't make a lot of sense that the medic can carry the med pouch and crate at the same time. That stuff can be tweaked.

I don't really think it feels like a modern BF game. I still wanted a modern game. I'd be the first to say it felt like modern combat if I thought it did. I miss my high rate of fire weapons and modern gadgets. And helicopters. And modern tanks. Yeah.. it's WW2.
And as grift said, I don't like that it defaults to squad following after a death. It should default to the map screen.
I'm trying to make some noise about it being a toggle. They've already improved the spawn/death (and revive) loop a lot since the alpha. Hopeful it will improve more.
