In other words: I think we need Naughty Dog
Shadow of Mordor is a perfect example of what a next generation title can offer. SoM is one of the best games overall in every category i've played in a very long time. AND most importantly of all, its not a shooter.
Not my fault if this is the same old E3 demo they've been parading for months and won't show anything new for playable.
I cant deny though that ND is talented especially in the visuals department. I just dont see it as being anything other than a TPS that has capitalized on what many other TPS did well, or hadnt done. I like Gears of War, but they didnt really innovate anything and i would think people probably like the Gears of War series more so than Uncharted (not including Judgment of course). I know they are different in their own respects, but i think they could still be somewhat compared. Uncharted series is like Gears in the sense its TPS, has cover mechanics, along with ADS. Uncharted has platforming, but its not revolutionary or anything.
Maybe i'll get trolled but i was more impressed with Tomb Raider 2013 as a whole compared to uncharted--i think that comparing these two is more in-order than GeOW series.
But I digress, if you think all ND did was polish up 3rd person gameplay, you're wrong, there's a reason why after Uncharted we received a flood of games that started using Nathan Drake clones as their protagonist.
''But I digress, if you think all ND did was polish up 3rd person gameplay, you're wrong...''
I wish they at least polished it though... I dislike the core gameplay on any of their Uncharted games. Shooting never fell satisfying for some reason and they seems to make it worse with the new games in series. And platforming is..eh you know other games have done that part much better before.
Reason for clones is just one - cinematic experiences tend to sell good for now, even if the gameplay on them is just basic and nothing to write about.
Sad part about The Order is - even the director said in interview that for the team cinematic feel is at the first place, next story and then gameplay and everything else...
btw totally agree with everything that @cma112087 said above.
Who said ND brought a lot of innovations to table tho? Their games did felt a step up from the rest (at least on consoles) in terms of fluid gameplay, animations and reactions to the environments and other living characters on it, especially in part 2 and 3. And that's exactly what we need now (imo), something that really "feels" a step up from last gen in terms of gameplay, animations, etc. Feeling next gen is different than being innovative on my book.
i dont know what the hell crappy games you've been playing your whole life.
The original Uncharted was panned by IGN in previews (back when they were credible and I had some respect for them) and Naughty Dog took their feedback on board and tightened the shooting mechanics. The finished version was a lot better for this and the reviews showed this. :)
Recently The Evil Within had A LOT of bad previews throughout the year and the final game received mostly good to great reviews from the same sources (although I played the first hour and was not impressed AT ALL, they strip away all tension and mystery IN THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF THE GAME) :/

Also the fact that they seem to be showing the same game play over & over doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Uncharted is only good for its graphics, animations, thats about it.
After i played U1 and 2, i didnt bother with U3 since core gameplay was boring to me. Sure i liked the fact characters isnt stuck in cement when moving like Gears of War but still.
I agree about the animations. Animations during gameplay is a huge factor in TP games. That along with gameplay variety and good controls, its the package that does it for me. Sadly the Order looks like its not gonna fix it for now. Had Ryse the same level of animations and gameplay variety and it would be a blast not only in visuals. Take care.
