PS3

Gamer's Day also included some new games, and one of the bigger ones were SOCOM: Confrontation. The game will be multiplayer only, with a release in late 2007.

Funny how so few war games use the middle east as a background, even though it's has been a hotspot for war, terrorism and conflict for five decades now. At least this game does.

Interesting. A new socom game. Visually it doesn't look that hot too me - rather uninspired I must say. Character models are rather weak and the environment also, except for the last two images which show some really nice lighting. Maybe theres still hope? The tech atleast seems to be present - Now if only the artdirection would follow suit this could very possible be one stellar looking game...

Not that incredible looking, but if you compare it to the last Socom for PS2, I think you'll understand why Socom fans will be excited.

This is not the one developed by Zipper Interactive, they are working on the real next-gen SOCOM.

This is a 'filler SOCOM' if you will (like how CoD3 was a 'filler CoD') made by the guys who made the crappy PSP version.
That's why it looks like aPSP game lol :P
(no but seriously it does look quite bad from these shots).

I expect this to be available via PSN only with a budget price.

Really?
I was excited to hear about a new Socom, but I want a full-out game, not a filler...
I guess this could be good if the price isn't too. Hopefully we'll atleast see some hints of what they plan to do with the series.

Modern Combat games are even MORE generic than WW II games imo. At least with WW II games you get locations and chrs from all over the world and a real sense of time and place. Meh.

IGN suggested that this game will only be online, similar to Warhawk. I agree with antena, I think (hope) Zipper Interactive will be making Socom 4 with offline mode (if IGN is correct).

Actually antena this is being made by Slant Six Games which is an offshoot of Bend Studios. They made the engine for Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror on PSP. I'm thinking you got that confused with the PSP SOCOM games. Dark Mirror was a beautiful game and worked very well. One of the best PSP games to date actually (Cant wait for Logan's Shadow which was shown at Gamer's Day too). I cant wait to see what these guys can do on PS3 hardware after seeing what they've done on PSP. Note that this engine being shown for Confrontation is only 5 months in. The whole game will be done in a year if it stays on schedule. Calling all Cars took over a year to give you a frame of reference.
