Xbox 360 PS3

Prototype keeps surprising us with this time a new Story trailer. Yes, there seems to be an actual story in the middle of all that gory action.

Looking more and more interesting now. Although there are some negative views about this game, on this forum, I still think this is looking mighty promising.

its like gta meets spiderman. i hope it doesn't disappoint. but i have a feeling it will. not because i'm overhyping it for myself in my head but because it seems like they are promising too much.

AARGH why do I have superpowers?? waaah!! FEEL MY RAGE!!

I have a feeling I will be just as embarrased playing this as Gears of War. I hope they have a skip cinematic button.

Definitely an interesting premise and hopefully if they release a demo before June (might not with just a couple of months before release) we can really get to see what it's about..

QFT. Although, this game's story might not be as forced.

Not exactly a stellar story but if the gameplay is up to it the story will probably be quite enough. I get kind of annoyed when people get so stuck on the story...sure its part of the game but there are other parts to consider as well. Though i guess actually analyzing gameplay is way above most gamers.

People have been "analyzing gameplay" since Pong, I think it's commendable when sometimes people actually give a crap about story in games.

Bullshit, people are always talking about stories in games. Why do you think games like jrpgs are so popular? Hardly because of the incredible game mechanics. The story is part of any story driven game but in some cases the story is perhaps not the most important thing. That said stories in games should be a lot better than they usually are, you only need a single person to write a story, spend a few extra bucks in that department and get a good writer.

Considering the story is USUALLY the framework as to how you will play, I'd say it's fairly important. For example, if Mirror's Edge didn't have that terrible "government is evil" storyline we probably wouldn't have had to be in those damn buildings fighting people all the time. And the fun could have been in the story mode along with the time trials. Unfortunately, it's only in the story line, because they don't make you fight or run around inside outside of the factory.

FormlessLikeWater: uh, that's not quite right. The story sets the game up from a narrating point of view, but mirror's edge would have played exactly the same if the story was that you were a parkour puppy in space selling pizza to homeless gorillas.

The story set up the scenerios in which you interact is my point. Had they shifted the story in a different direction you would have most likely not have killed the fun that was in the game by making me fight and slow down to go through corridors. Undoubtably they think of what type of game they are going to make first before penning the story. But once they start writing it, it will start to shape what they let you do within the confines of the story.

That is only true if you let the story take precedence over the gameplay. Any good game maker will probably sit down and think about what works within the game and what doesn't. Obviously they got it wrong in Mirror's edge because it's not as great as it could have been, but that's not the point.

Pong did have a good story though about a young rising star in a European top tennis tournament :)

Well, that was only recently since the new millenium. Before JRPGs, there was no focus on story. Story is still paid to attention in story-oriented games where gameplay isn't th biggest selling factor (RPGs, adventure games), so it's a rarity to find a good story in an action game or shooter (Max Payne, Starbreeze games, Too Human).
