Trailer PS5

It was no secret, a PlayStation 5 Pro was bound to get released, with rumors stating it would be for this end of year. Well, the rumors were true, and this new version of the console embarking a 2TB SSD will even be available sooner than some expected, as it will ship on November 7 2024. That's the good news. As for the rest, well, opinions will probably vary. Sony chose to showcase the new console by using "old" PlayStation 5 exclusive, like Rift Apart, Spider-Man 2, Horizon Forbidden West or TLOU Part 2 Remastered, the point being that players will be able to enjoy fidelity modes with higher frame rates. Nice, but will it be enough to make people want to play these games again? Not quite sure. The addition of ray traced reflections during gameplay for GT7 is a lot more interesting, but Hogwarts Legacy seems to still be locked at 30 fps with ray tracing. It's a shame more recent releases such as Star Wars Outlaws or Black Myth: Wukong were not mentioned, let alone future exclusive AAA by PlayStation Studios. That said, the worst surprise of the event was obviously the pricing, though we all expected the Pro to be expensive. Still, $699/€799/£699 is a lot of money, especially considering there is no disc drive and no stand... It's a risky bet in our opinion. What do you guys think?

I think the price for what you get here is unacceptable. This has also made me realize that I've stuck with the original launch versions of all the PlayStation's throughout time: the original PS1 because by the time the "PS One" was releasing so was the PS2, then I stuck with the original PS2 because I had no need for a Slim version, then I stuck with the original PS3 for the PS2 games compatibility, then I stuck with the original PS4 because it had P.T. on it, and now it looks like I'm sticking with the original PS5 too. No disc drive or vertical stand for $700 is... not worth my money.

Called "Pro" but not equipped with all features? Vertical stand is not a must but the optical drive is, 920 euros with that, I can see that we eventually hit the 1000 mark with game consoles too...
Sony is clearly testing the consumers with this price and with digital only, every company is working on to kill ownership so they can take away or modify the content and keep you subscribed which they can't do if you physically own the thing. If PS6 will be digital only then it would be crazy since Sony is one of the founder member of  Blu-ray Disc Association.
I'm a fan of Sony but they got cocky with the success of PS4, last gen was such a great balance of things.

Almost nobody will by this thing due to the very high price. It will age like milk on the store shelf. I also don't understand the decision to include a 2 TB SSD. Flash memory is expensive and increases the price. 1 TB is totally fine for me. I don't need all my games at same time on my SSD. If you only have the games installed which you're playing right now 1 TB is fine. Also the CGI concept from a few days ago looked better. I was eager to buy a Pro but now. In Germany the Slim Digital Edition is available for 410 €. So 800 bucks for the Pro is almost double the price! And in 4 years there is already the PS6 available making the PS5 Pro old tech. And then all I get is raytraced reflections in Gran Turismo 7 which nobody sees when drifting around the corner with 120 km/h. If you look around in the Internet there is lots of rage everywhere about the price.

There were clearly ways to lower the price, the SSD being one, but the difference in price between Europe and the US is what strikes me the most (even taking the taxes into account). It seems all the more exaggerated considering the euro is currently almost as strong as the US dollar. Ideally, I think it should have been €699 with an optical drive, 599 without, which could have led to a cheaper base PS5 (but since it's gotten more expensive in Japan it was obviously wishful thinking). Now when you consider that Microsoft is selling a 2TB SSD Xbox Series X for €650, it was probably naive to believe Sony would release a PS5 Pro for 700.

When you want to buy a RDNA 3 graphics card with 60 compute units like PS5 Pro you pay 480 € in Germany. And then you are still missing the more powerful raytracing and AI performance from the PS5 Pro. Not to mention you still need to buy a CPU, PSU, motherboard, case, storage etc. From that point of view the price of the PS5 Pro makes much more sense. Still the prices of the vertical stand and the disc drive is a joke.

The price is very, very high and if it had included the disc drive, it would at least make it more palatable. Like others have mentioned here and elsewhere, Sony really should have gone with a 1TB SSD and included the disc drive for this price.

The fact is that most people don't need 2 TB of space, unless they want to have 30-50 games installed at the same time, which is... frankly stupid. While most people need or at the very least want a disc drive.

Resale and/or exchange of games is still very much big in many countries where the price of games is absurdly high. That's the only way most of those people can afford games and people in those communities need physical discs.

Releasing a Pro console for almost twice the price of a base PS5 without a fundamental benefit of the original is both crazy and insanely arrogant on Sony's part. Still, I believe it will sell reasonably well, perhaps not the 80/20 split ratio of the PS4 Base/PS4 Pro, but maybe 90/10. Any less than that and I will say it's a commercial failure.

You pay so much money and then maybe 75 % of all games won't receive a Pro patch and you cannot use that whole power.

I think Sony could have offered a smaller SSD and added a disc drive to make the console more attractive in price.
