Simbin and Atari will have a couple of busy upcoming weeks, because it seems like they will reveal all the maps and car classes with videos. Out first from the car classes in Race Pro is the Production cars; Koenigsegg CCXR, Dodge Viper SRT-10 and Audi R8.

Atari fact sheet:
The production cars featured in RACE Pro are luxury, high end sports cars and super cars. All of them can be purchased and driven on public roads, but in order to truly appreciate their speed potential, RACE Pro has taken them for a spin at the track. Originally designed for the street, these precision engineered driving machines are a perfect addition to RACE Pro’s line-up of racing cars. The production cars featured in RACE Pro each give a different racing experience, so to give a taste of what RACE Pro has to offer, unveiled below are the Koenigsegg CCXR, Dodge Viper SRT-10 and Audi R8. 1. Koenigsegg CCXR
· Manufacturer Overview: Koenigsegg (Koenigsegg Automotive Ltd)
Since the first prototype left its assembly line in 1996, Koenigsegg has established itself as a manufacturer of high-performance cars based in Ängelholm, Sweden, and is reputed for making one of the fastest production cars in the world. In 2004, Koenigsegg launched the CCR which broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest street-legal car in production. The car's badge is based on the shield of the Koenigsegg family, a noble family with roots in Bavaria and Prussia. In 2007, Koenigsegg launched the CCXR model featured in RACE Pro capable of running on E85 and E100 Ethanol as well as unleaded 98 octane fuels. Running on ethanol, the car produces 1018 horsepower and can achieve speeds of 400+ km/h.

· Key Stats
The two production cars from Koenigsegg featured in RACE Pro are the CCXR and the CCX, both with the true specs and speed potential of the real cars. The 1018 horsepower CCXR is therefore the fastest car in the game when it reaches its top speeds on the straights.

Power: 1018 bhp @ 7200 rpm
Torque: 1060 Nm @ 6100 rpm
Weight: 1180 kg
Top speed: > 400 km/h

2. Dodge Viper SRT-10
· Manufacturer Overview: Chrysler (Chrysler Holding LLC)
Walter P. Chrysler founded the Chrysler Corporation in 1925 in Detroit with the automaker quickly earning a reputation for advanced engineering. In 1928, Chrysler Corporation expanded with the purchase of Dodge and the creation of the DeSoto and Plymouth divisions, making it the third of Detroit’s “Big Three” automakers overnight. Known for many years as Detroit’s engineering company, Chrysler Corporation gained fame for creating power steering, power windows, the alternator, electronic fuel injection and the Hemi engine. The Hemi V8 engine made its debut in 1951 offering 180 horsepower and rivalling the V8 offered by Cadillac: it kick-started Detroit's horsepower race of the '50s and '60s. In the late '60s, Chrysler was heavily involved with NASCAR and producing performance-oriented cars. After a difficult decade in the 1970s due to the oil crisis, new government regulations and changing consumer tastes, the late 1980s saw Chrysler purchase American Motors Corporation (which netted the company the Jeep brand) and launch a joint venture with Mitsubishi known as Diamond Star Motors. In 1998, German-based Daimler-Benz merged with Chrysler to form DaimlerChrysler.

· Key Stats
With its 8.3 litre V10 engine producing 510 horsepower, the Viper SRT-10 is capable of reaching super car numbers for both acceleration and top speed. It does exceptionally well at track days whilst also serving as a car for daily use. The Viper model’s pedigree has been proven time and time again in GT championships as well as 12 and 24 hour races around the world. All the data gathered from motorsports racing has been used in developing and producing the real life Viper SRT-10.

Power: 600 bhp @ 6100 rpm
Torque: 760 Nm @ 5000 rpm
Weight: 1552 kg
Top speed: > 300 km/h

3. Audi R8
· Manufacturer Overview: Audi (Audi AG)
A German manufacturer with its headquarters based in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Audi is one of the world’s leading performance-luxury brands. The historic Audi Company was founded in 1910, but has been a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group since 1966. The name Audi comes from the founder of the company, August Horch, whose surname in Latin is audi (hear). Audi’s rich tradition in motor sports began with the Auto Union in 1932, and Audi has successfully competed in several forms of auto racing since. Few manufacturers of modern sports cars have a history in motorsports that is as long and as successful as Audi’s. Audi has won in touring cars, IMSA, Rally, 12 and 24 hour races.

· Key Stats
The Audi R8 is a masterpiece of engineering and the 420 horsepower V8 engine ranks as one of the best V8 engines ever built. This engine coupled with Audi’s fantastic 4 wheel drive technology and aluminum chassis makes the R8 a truly incredible driving machine. The Audi R8 presented the RACE Pro development team with a completely new challenge as SimBin had never simulated a car with 4 wheel drive before, but the team is proud to deliver a true recreation of the Audi R8 in RACE Pro.

Power: 600 bhp @ 7500 rpm
Torque: 620 Nm @ 6000 rpm
Weight: 1120 kg
Top speed: > 300 km/h

whats the point of being ultra realistic and then have the visuals take you out of that?
Get this game polished simbin.. you're not on the pc now, and just because its the most hardcore racing game to date doesnt mean a thing if it doesnt look good..as like it or not, we're all graphics whores here.

Atari publishing it isnt a great sign either.

... I do not completelt understand these comments...

The game looks great, not any jaggies in sight in-motion and the cars are detailed. The physics engine is not like anything else seen before on consoles.

The game was mostly developed under THQ, Atari bought it later. If Atari is desperate, they would have forced the game out before Christmas.

What in the following image says they need to polish it more?

Polishing: yaggies (which you don't seem to see), bad textures (just plain ugly), very strange lighting and awfull shadows, very low polygon count in the environment, grainy and ugly filter.
The trailer shown last week did not show an ounce of jaggies. Screenshots always have them, though many are polished up or captured in ridiculous 5200xXXXX resolution.

The game doesn't have *da best graphiz evar*, but I don't think it's not the piece of shit many seem to think it is.

The level of detail of a car in front of you jumps very fast to a lower level, that's the only thing that I really don't like about the graphics.
It's no Gran Turismo, but it can definately battle with Forza (graphics wise)

Forza 2 was in 60 fps, but a horrible jaggie fest to me. I think these graphics simply are Forza 2, but with more AA and 30 fps.

If this is anything like Race07 on PC, then

* There is no unlocking of cars, you get them all at the start.
* There is no upgrading the cars, only tuning existing configurations.
* There is no unlocking of tracks, they are all available at the start.
* There is no career progression, only race seasons to enter.

So it really doesn't need to be compared to Forza2, in my opinion. Forza2 offers way more content than this game will. Race is a straight to the point sim racer with no frills. And I will be buying it.

the graphics are good enough in my opinion, but the gameplay shown before was purely horrendous ... especially that bumper car video with the Koenigsegg *ugh*

My problem with the graphics from what's shown there is that the interiors look good enough on the in-car view, but from outside they get replaced with some low polygon models that destroy whatever sense of realism the lighting and the detail of the outside of the car tries to give. The wheels also look pretty bad, and if we've critiziced the trees from gran turismo for having trees made of 2 2D textures, at least those are not a single texture bordering the track.

If I remember it correctly, the replay editor have added AA and other graphical features, making it look better. Anyway, back to Race Pro.

Graphics are BAD BAD BAD. There is no way to defend them in 2009 when the game comes out, please. Let's have some level of standard beyond just looking "acceptable".

Cars look better than Forza's in terms of detail, for one they have interiors fully rendered, but they are still pretty low poly overall, and the interior is still rendered badly when not using the in car view as seen here: http://images.gamersyde.com/gallery/public/9856/16...

In other words, PGR is where awesome car models are, let's forget about Forza. In fact, I won't mention any other games for comparison for this post.

Lighting is almost laughable, completely flat and glitching in the last actual gameplay video we saw. Shadowing is almost non-existent. The foliage, any type of plant is presented exactly the same way it did in the 90's, only in higher resolution, and more dense, but it looks really bad for 2009.

So it all comes down to the physics, and like I said before, we need a demo because what they've shown only shows a downgrade from the PC games. So you crash a car from behind and you get a strong camera shake with nothing else really.

Doesn't the replay editor have added AA and other graphical features?
Yes, and it can barely hold up to those 30fps, any added particles (dust, smoke) and the game can potentially slow down to a crawl.

BTW, I'm more excited about the Formula 1 game they were supposed to be developing. I heard they hired the person who worked on the physics engine for Richard Burns, and since it is first of all a PC game, they can't go very wrong with that.

Yeah, and if we could get GTR-level physics on GT's.......

I do think it is possible to get awesome physics and graphics together, it just looks to me like getting these two kind of geniuses together is sort of like an impossible task this generation.

Blimey is working on that, not Simbin.

For the latest product Blimey (old staff from Simbin, actually) have released go look up the BMW M3-Challenge game on PC. Completely free and plays great.
