Video Xbox 360

Forza Motorsport 4 is at Microsoft's booth, but only playable via Kinect. A strange choice, leading to a not so interesting video I guess.

why would anyone want to play a racing game like this? seriously, either buy a wheel or use a control pad.

sorry but for the comment about lag or why would anyone use kinect in a racing game its quite simple, as lots of people bought kinect (over 1 quater of 360 owners) not having a feature made to make use of their £130 ivnestment really doesnt sell kinect very well, im sure given the circumstances sony would like to see a similar feature put into GT at some point to boost sales of their own motion product, anyway regardless of motion products forza 4 is playable with game pads and wheels anyway so what was the exact point of moaning about kinect gameplay ???.

Only one reason to use Kinect, to give to first time rookies that just want to jump in and play without learning controller controls/buttons...

Controller all the way for me.

I think kids and adults that are not serious gamers and want to have fun with the family would enjoy racing like that,

It's a fun gadget, nothing more.. Any serious racingfan will offcourse never play like this, the most hardcore even refuse to play with a controller (they use wheel+pedals)..

Same discussion why hardcore FPS-gamers play FPS with a mouse+keyboard..

Indeed.Input lag greater then 30ms may affect sensitive and skilled gamers. My flatscreen has 30ms and thats the main reason to change it soon. Half a second is what makes game unplayable.

I must say, i don't think people that say things in a negative way of Kinect, really understand the point of it sometimes. I'm not ever giving up a controller if i have to and indeed i'm getting the wireless wheel for Forza as well. The thing is, the idea of driving with absolutely no controller is very appealing to me and will be for lots others too. I love the idea of playing this casually, and what's even better, i don't have to worry about anything else but steering alone- that pure focus on just steering works for me if i want a simpler way to play- and frankly i often do with car sims when i've grown sick of the concentration you need at times

And it's not like you can't become hardcore at playing this way- a more experienced user of this method for example likely beating so called experts hardcore players

It's just a nice extra bit of fun that you can play if you want to, and a welcome addition for those that find this genre daunting

ARGH! The problem with Kinect is that the developers are just forcing it into their game as bluntly and gimmicky they possibly can. What happened with the head tracking that everyone was talking about when Forza 4 was first shown? Letting you freely look around inside your car by just moving your head would actually have been useful.

Instead we get *this* which honestly just looks awful. I'm getting so tired about Kinect enabled games where even the most positive thoughts about them ranges around "it's almost as good as if you merely used a regular controller".

Dude, chill. The head tracking IS in the game- they've shown it several times, this video is just about the controller free freature...

Yeh people need to realize that this isn't aimed at hardcore gamers. If you are serious about forza you would buy a steering wheel, failing that use a gamepad.

The lag isn't an issue for this game either, because you can plan ahead when to turn (video is proof of that, the guy quickly adjusts to the lag and takes bends properly). It's not like fighting or FPS games where there is a lot of randomness that will require you to react quickly.

Forcing it in would mean you have to make use of it. This is just a little extra for those with Kinect. And as mentioned head tracking is in.

500ms is half a second not 30ms, maybe your TV has 300ms lag?! :o And Kinect in Forza 4 has nowhere near half a second lag, watch the video again then watch a videos of someone playing Forza 4 (or any other racing game) with a steering wheel and you'll see the lag is virtually the same, maybe 50ms more at most. Also here's another video people should watch:
