PS3

MotorStorm is/was so far the PS3 game I was the most hyped about, and the japanese version I got a few days ago is half-way to be what I was hoping the game would be. So they more or less nailed the graphics (bar a few slowdowns and glitches) and the gameplay is a good as expected, but it's unfortunately a quite empty, but pretty, shell. Besides running against the AI, there is nothing to do, absolutely nothing. And since there is no real sense of achievement in winning races after races, it gets boring quite fast. So let's just hope the US/PAL version will get a lot more content and that the multiplayer will be good!
Update: The mp4 version is now online, but for some reason doesn't work on my PS3. This is really annoying.
Update2: The second partie, featuring a quite out of the ordinary track is now online.

I have to say, I have been dissappointed by the lack of features in the JP version of the game. At least we know we'll be getting online.

No. At least for now and in near future...

And IGN import review

"Motorstorm is the most featureless racer I've ever played. There are only a couple of options, for adjusting the sound and screen and switching the motion sensor controls on and off. Missing are options for adjusting the number of opponents and track count, and such standard modes such as free run and time attack.

The game doesn't even have any form of multiplayer racing. While we knew about the lack of online in the Japanese version, there's no multiplayer what-so-ever, not even split screen!

Motorstorm also shipped to Japan with some of the glaring problems from the demo still in place. Load times prior to the start of a race can take up to 45 seconds."

PS How many tracks are in MotorStorm?

I liked the fact that you quoted all the negative comments from the IGN review, why didn't you paste any of the positive comments?

Positive IGN quotes below...

"The driving component of Motorstorm is a blast to play. You've never played a racing game quite like this, where the type of car you select can totally change the feel of the course, where the bumps and other obstacles that line the course are more of a challenge than your opponent racers, and where each lap can be raced on a different path. As I played, I found myself thinking that no two races are ever alike, and every race is better than the last."

Due to the fact that even with the blast fun game, the amount of content in the game is more negative then the positive of driving. If I was Japanese and bought this game at full price i would be pissed.

No question that the game has potential, and with multi and hopefully more at launch in Euro/US the game will be a blast. But i question why they release a good shell o a game but no content? why couldn't it wait in Japan to?

The most asburd thing is ofcourse the lack of multiplayer, any racing game loses it's value in my eyes with no multiplayer support cause racing is allways most fun online and against friends and unlike FPS it shouldn't be that hard to add into the game.

Once again, why release something that is so far from complete?

Well the price of the game is 4,980 yen in most Japanese game stores and that's 2,000 or even 3,000 yen cheaper than most other high profile games.

And don't use that word "Jap" (PalmiNio) is classed as racism and I will not stand for any racism on these boards or any other boards.

Sorry, non-US so didn't know that. Can I ask why?

Well besides that, even with lower pricetag why? i rater wait and pay more. what will happen i Japan when the US/Euro version comes out? Will you be able to download the extra? will there come a new version on disk? I see no logick behind rushing something that Sony working to be a killerapp, if it was EA it wouldn't suprise me

I wouldnt be surprised if alot of downloadable content came later on, extra maps, vehicles, etc. To me it seems like this game was rushed out to stores so that people with ps3's would have something else to play other than Resistance. 2007 will be the year that all the consoles start pulling out the big guns.

strange... everyone is moaning about "gameplay is more important than graphics" but just think about: do you want total senseless racing on the same courses again and again like in RidgeRacer7? where is the point in useless content?

that doesn't mean that motorstorm lacks badly in content. BUT it is an awesome expericence none the less and I don't regret a dollar I spent for it.

what's there is great... and I like it better that way than a huge game that is shitty.

Well from a killerapp like Motorstorm i whant good gameplay, good grapich and rich content. What I'm asking for is something like Project Gotham Racing 3. It had great graphic, great game play and the content included Multiplayer, Diffrent racin types, HUGE maps and HUGE variation of cars.

As I said, if this was and EA game i would be suprise like what they did with FIFA: road to world cup for Xbox 360. But this is Motorstorm, a game Sonys want to show how good PS3 is, ofcourse i must have both good gameplay, good content and good graphic then. For me, in next-gen it is a failure to release a racing game without multiplayer cause it adds so muck to the content. I don't doubt Motorstorm will rock when it hits US and Euro byt why rush out a product? Rushning out unfinished product isn't good for the brand.

@DJmizuhara

I was giving confirmation to BlimBlim words. And (considering no restrictions on importing of PS3 games from Japan) why better wait.
And anybody interested could check the link. Not to mention that you can see whats good in the movie :)

Anyway BlimBlim I heard that there is GT HD movie on Japanese marketplace.

And for that of us that are non-americans - why "jap" is offensive in USA.
It's their fault they made it word war 2 propaganda slogan for example "slap the jap"

They actually released all that as the whole game in Japanese version?! That's f'ed up, seriously. WHY??? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Thanks for this so much BLIMBLIM! Could you show other tracks and use the inside camera cause I want to see the mud get slinged about onto the hood. That camera is so intense, the normal 3rd person camera feels very detached and not as great an immersion or sense of speed.

I know I have spent 60dollars on much crappier software than motorstorm and I would buy it again

no exuse for that move of sony because I am not joe public...

so because it was used indescriminantly once due to racial insensitivity, thats means its ok to continue to use it forever??? should we apply that rule to all racial slurs now???

in anycase, back to motorstorm...the weird bit is Sony's pretty much said they're adding more stuff to it later......they practically said the japanese retail version is incomplete....makes you wonder why they really bothered to release it yet.

I have downloaded
File : The first 10 minutes : Motorstorm part 2 (117.21 MB)
using torrent and it doesn't work for me. [the file was downloaded properly / I have fairly new codecs / even VLC didn't want to touch it]
Is it corrupted or does it need some new-beta-last-tree codec?

A local game store had this game set up for customers to play, and I was surprised that there was almost a line for it because it's really not that good. Sharp-looking, yes. Fun, no. It's as barren as the race tracks it features.
