First 10 minutes PC Xbox 360 PS3

As we haven't been able to give you a proper review of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, our review version having probably been lost in some parallel universe, we will make it up to you by showing you the first 10 minutes of the retail version we were sent this week. Being in a pleasing mood this week-end, other videos will come if you guys want to see a bit more of the game. Enjoy!
Update 2: Third part added.

This new episode in the franchise reminds a lot of the Sands of Time trilogy games, especially the first one, this as soon as the introductory tutorial sequence you can see down below. The platforming is then unsurprisingly pleasant, which cannot be said for the combat, that is actually about as (un)interesting as it was in Sands of Time. Compared with today's standards, it falls short of what is now expected in the genre.

Gaphically speaking, the game looks ok overall, nice in some cases, but the Assassin's Creed engine is clearly not used to its full potential. That being said, it is quite a fun game to play and in the few hours I have played so far, I have not gotten bored yet.

Apparently rather short (according to the different reviews), with only a normal and easy mode to choose from, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands may not be the AAA title hardcore gamers should not miss, but it is nonetheless an enjoyable game that is also faithful to the franchise. If the platforming of the 2008 Prince did not satisfy you, you might want to give this one a try.

I just watched a couple of minutes of the footage but I'm a bit suprised that the animation of the prince looks a bit stiff.
The first jump he makes doesn't look like he's jumping at all, more like floating upwards.. It might be just me watching the low res version of the video but that was just something I noticed...

Nope mate, you are indeed right. I have noticed the below par animations since way before.... It's like it took a step backwards from the previous smooth perfect animations in the prince of persia games

Indeed, the animation looks very similar to the Sands of Time Trilogy prince, and today it is hard not to say they are a bit outdated. I like the game though, but you have to put aside a few things to enjoy it. It's a big step backward from the latest installment, not so much from the PS2 games though. But in 2010, it hurts.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you want to see more videos. I have the next 20 minutes I can show you.

I actually disagree. I BET if you turn on Sands of Time right now, you will find that it has WAY BETTER animations. Go watch some videos on youtube and you will see what I mean. The smoothness is just GONE.... From the way he runs to the way he jumps and finishing with the way he swings his sword... it's just all wrong and clunky... what a shame. PoP series have always set the standard high when it came to animations. This is a massive disappointment for me....

I mean watch this

We would love to see the next 20 minutes dirft, if you feel like you can upload them. Thanks :)

I beg to differ. If I had time (which I don't :p), I would capture Sands of Time on Xbox (it's here at home) and prove you wrong. What you thought was amazing back in 2003 may not look as jaw-dropping as you think now, especially in HD.

I really liked the platforming in '08 because I have never seen non-linear platforming in a game. With that, you could experiment a lot when you're hunting orbs.

This, the platforming doesn't look as interesting, so maybe you should show where the platforming involves the water freezing, and other effects.

Graphics, albeit a little repetitive, are a huge improvement. Looks like uncharted for dome reason.

So sub-par animation is a good thing

I just think that considering what we've seen lately in other games (Assassin's Creed 2, God of War III, etc.) that this game is seriously behind in the animation department. Kind of weird considering this is the Assassin's Creed engine... I mean the animation on that one is superb!

Well, I don't know about that. I'm afraid I only captured the first hour of the game. I am quite far into it now, but i'll try to see what I can do this coming week if you don't mind all the waiting that is. :)

Suffice to say that the platforming, though always very linear, really gets exciting when you have to move fast and use you different powers.

Oh no doubt about that. The winning platforming formula is there! it's just marred by the animation as far as I can see. In any case, let's hope this is a stop of no retun for the Prince. Sure he can control time but I'd rather see him move forward after 2008's PoP.... Let's continue that story please..

The whole game looks and feels dated. Visuals are not up to Ubisoft standards... (i.e. AC2, SCC) yet the framerate is terrible. Animations also leave a lot to be desired and the gameplay modifications look more like a cheap Destiny Warriors at times.

I'm extremely dissapointed by this but can't say I didn't see it coming. When a game keeps itself under the radar all the way through its release its usually for reasons like these. I'll pass.

Thanks for the Video. It is POP:SOT proper sequel. But the gfx could have been better and combat also. They should have taken more six months or so to polish this game. But I will still get it. This is probably next best POP after SOT

visually its a bit middle of the road, combat looks about as boring as combat can possible be without being called dynasty warriors. but the general vibe, style and platforming looks downright awesome. even with it's flaws it still looks infinately more appealing then POP08, but the flaws sadly make it a rent rather then a buy. if the combat was even like the first sands of time i'd have probably bought it. but i can't justify paying full whack for a game with mind numbingly boring combat.
