After a rather disappointing Infinite Undiscovery, quite a few of us hoped that Tri-Ace would get their tech together and would release a stellar looking Star Ocean: The Last Hope like expected from people who managed to do some almost magical stuff with the PS2 hardware. Well, I'm sorry to say that this isn't really the case. While the game has some quite nice lighting effect, the aliasing is always in the way and the image resolution during fights is simply unacceptable. What happened here? How did Microsoft even accept this? Anyway, the game itself still seems to be a quite good action-RPG, so enjoy this video showing the first 10 minutes of the game (Japanese version), with as usual quite a lot more to come in the next few days and weeks.
Update: Added a second part, starting a few minutes after the first one (long dialog in Japanese).
Update 2: Third and last (for the moment) part is up. We'll start over next week with the US version.

There have been a few I've certainly enjoyed (such as Lost Odyssey), but it seems like there's always some niggling factor holding them back.
Based on videos and shots, I think Star Ocean 4 looks amazing. The art design is a little off, almost like they intentionally made the characters look like puppets, but from a 'flashy' standpoint it really pops out.
will pick this up

That said, to each thier own. dont really care if others hate or love it as long as I appreciate it. Its just entertaiing to see others opinions.
But whatever, if there is a lot of jaggies and the game is upscaled a lot, i can't help but think it's worth mentioning. Especially since one of the big things about this game has been just that - graphics.
On other hand the game runs in 60 FPS, wich is something VERY rare for todays games, it's a complete different feel when a game runs this smoth, and I sure noticed it as well with SO3 as it was also one of the rare games running at 60 FPS on PS2.

broman back then games where not bad because of graphics, but because of gameplay, there is on other hand MANY GOOD games from back then belive it or not, and the grapihc part is irelevant on that regard. And you know, you don't even need to look that far back, just look at eg PS2 games and you whill probobly scare yourself how terrible some games look but are a lot of fun to play.
Today however, it's always been an standard about graphic is the NUMBER ONE THING if a game is good or not... this is just gone way to overboard, but personaly I'm just gonna say this once as I said before SO3 was the most fun PS2 game I ever played, this use the same system, for me it cannot be bad even if now the graphic acording to most is terrible.
I'm waiting for a review, plot-wise...
Looks good to me as well.
This game does have potential.

It doesn't look bad, I just think people expect too much nowadays.
Don't worry Chewy, I think we have a potential candidate for quickest ban (doesn't Synce still hold that record?)
:o)
The character models in cutscsnes and some of the shader effects are really nice as is there lighting, I am a little disappointed thats its not all 1280x720 but you hardly notice it half the time, after seeing videos of the later stuff with so many effects going on it's pretty obvious why they halved the resolution in battle.
I think your being overly critical Blim :)
