Sony Computer Entertainment America ANNOUNCES THE LAST OF US, A NEW PLAYSTATION®3 EXCLUSIVE DEVELOPED BY NAUGHTY DOG

LOS ANGELES, December 10, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC announced today The Last of Us, a new franchise created exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Developed by Naughty Dog, the creators of the highly acclaimed and best-selling UNCHARTED™ series, The Last of Us was unveiled in a world premiere trailer at the Spike TV 2011 Video Game Award Show.

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog. “Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”

The Last of Us is developed by some of the industry most talented game designers including Bruce Straley, game director, and Neil Druckmann, creative director. Naughty Dog advanced to the forefront of the videogame industry in 1996 with the successful introduction of Crash Bandicoot on the original PlayStation. The developer extended the franchise with Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and Crash Team Racing, selling 22 million copies worldwide and led to Naughty Dog being the most successful video game developer in the United States for that console generation. The team then created the Jak and Daxter franchise including Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy®, Jak II™, Jak 3™ and Jak X: Combat Racing™. All four of titles are PlayStation®2 “Greatest Hits”. In 2007 the team released UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune® and followed with UNCHARTED2: Among Thieves™ and the recent November launch of UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception™. Having currently sold over 13 million units worldwide, the UNCHARTED franchise represents some of the most impressive graphics, sound and processing capabilities found on PS3.

Yeah its the same engine as the uncharted games, but no doubt updated. I hope the levels are mini sandboxes. Not usually into zombie games, but this looks more like post apocalyptic survival...plus its ND, I have bought their last six games

Despite not having a PS3, I'm really pumped for this. Looks way more interesting than Uncharted in my opinion.

Ho-shit, Didnt expect naughty dog would be making this, sounds and looks great too. Zombies are a bit....meh, but their behavior reminds me more of 28 days/weeks later, and they at least LOOK different, plus their explination and take on it seems unique. Looks like what dead island should have been, at least based on the trailer.

Girl reminds me of that woman who played juno. Pretty psyched for this.

Exactly what I thought.

As for being excited for this... not yet. I mean, I'm interested in seeing what the game actually looks like, what kind of game it is, and how it plays, and ND has mad polishing skills and attention to detail which a lot of devs sorely lack, but a post-apocalyptic "zombie" trailer isn't enough to get me pumped just yet.

Reminds me of a cross between I am Legend and 28 Days Later, which isn`t a bad thing!

I`ll keep my eyes peeled on this little title me thinks :0)

Looks real nice, i just hope it's a real attempt at making something a bit different. Uncharted has great production values but it's so cookie-cutter in all other aspects that it becomes boring. I hope this changes it up. Looks promising :)

I really hope that the 'survival' aspect is prominent though. Too many zombie games have promised this in the past but failed to deliver.

Things like having to find food/water in order to stay alive, having no ammo apart from what you loot off strangers, and a severe lack of choice in weapons - whatever you can get your hands on - is what I'm hoping for.

Exactly! I would love to see proper survival game.

Cannot get excited about some cutscene tho. It looks good and all, but the most important thing in the games is gameplay for me.

That's because she is. Ellen Page and Hugh Jackman are the leads (well at least in this trailer).

First Naughty Dog game I have been interested in...anything supernatural or phenamenon to a game from start to end, I like lol.

I am sure they will have the gameplay like Uncharted which I dont mind.

Also, the guy looks like Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell Conviction.

Not seeing hugh jackman at all. That is definately ellen page tho. Even the way she says 'better then that guy' just screamed ellen page.

I hope there is a good dynamic between the voice actors like there was in uncharted. Drake and co were so good in that because they sounded like they gave a crap when recording their voices (a rarity in videogames). It didnt just sound like lines off a script. The guy in this trailer seems to have captured that, there is subtlety and believability, but the girl? I'm not so sure yet. Need to hear more of her dialogue. She does the funny, sarcastic juno thing well, but can she do emotion?

Actually I was talking about the voices. The guy sounds a lot like Jackman.

Anyway, I think it's time for me to finally buy ps3.

It'd be intersting to compare I AM ALIVE to this game's gameplay, and see if they borrow elements. Which comes out first, and which will be the more innovative?
