Sony and Naughty Dogs finally give more information about The Last of Us online modes. The multiplayer focuses on the survival aspect and team's progression which makes it rather interesting. There are two modes: Supply Raid and Survivors but first you need to choose the factions you wish to fight on (Hunters or Fireflies). More details and screens inside.
To keep your clan alive and help them grow in size, you need supplies. Supplies are earned by fighting on a team selecting the Faction of your choosing – either Hunters or Fireflies – in one of two game modes – Supply Raid or Survivors. Your goal is to keep your clan alive for twelve weeks.
You gain supplies based on how well you do in the match. Each match you play counts as one day. All the parts you earn in the match from actions like kills, assists, revives, and crafting are converted into supplies at the end of a match. Enemies also drop supplies when they die which you can pick up.
At its core the focus of multiplayer team play in The Last of Us is survival. If you can survive twelve weeks, you unlock new character customization items based on the size of your clan, essentially winning the Meta game.
MODES:
The Last of Us has two Multiplayer Modes: Supply Raid and Survivors. Both offer unique challenges to your Team’s survival and count towards your Team’s progression. Each Supply Raid and Survivors match counts as one day. The limit for a match is eight players, four per team.
During Supply Raid, you join other Hunters or Fireflies, based on your faction, to scavenge supplies from the area to keep your Team alive. Each team has a pool of twenty lives. Once that total has been reached, the match goes to Sudden Death! Once any team is in Sudden Death, they can no longer respawn upon death.
During a Supply Raid, any crafted items or materials carry over between deaths. This allows you to better plan when best to use any crafted items. Be sure to take full advantage of crafting opportunities.
Survivors is very unforgiving; there are no respawns in each match. Survivors’ mode features the best of seven rounds. First team to win four rounds wins the match. Once a Team has been defeated, both Teams move on to the next match until enough wins have been accumulated by either side to declare an overall winner of the best out of seven matches. Depending on the number of wins for each Team, this may take all seven matches, or it can be over in as few as four. Crafting items and crafted items do not carry over between matches. Make sure you quickly use anything you create so your crafting efforts are not wasted if you die.
Mastering stealth, teamwork, and crafting techniques will aid your clan’s survival. If you’re going to be successful at keeping your clan alive your team will have to become proficient in these core components of Factions mode.

Sounds unique though. Much like uncharteds mix of cover and traversal. Makes a change from the typical deathmatch modes.
Sounds like this multiplayer captures the tension of the single player really well. Games are slow burners, with small, considered pockets of ultra violence (enemies can be revived if you don't execute them) sound and stealth are key. At least they try to do things differently. we'll see if it pays off, uncharted did, so I have faith.

Multi-player of 1-2 and 3 where shit. OP me-lee and other serious problems.
Single player where awesome on the other hand.
Looking forward playing sp.

Naughty Dog's Engine on the otherhand, quite unique actually. Talk some sense please.
And that is some praise to give Naughty Dog mister Nostragottaclue. To an Xbot they are bullshots, to Playstation fanboys, business as usual.
Now having said that, if they use some of the brutal melee attacks in the multiplayer, that would be fun.
Looking forward playing sp.

I'd have much rather a pure co-op multiplayer attachment.. where you're simply set on a task to get supplys and bring them back to base whilst avoiding/confronting AI zombies/human clans. Like left 4 dead when you're down you can be revived, when you die you can come back in the game as another survivor found along the way.
The second to last screen shot does look awesome though.
My most anticipated MP game in a loooong time runs off a modified Unreal 2.5 engine, and it doens't bother me one bit.

"Once a Team has been defeated, both Teams move on to the next match until enough wins have been accumulated by either side to declare an overall winner of the best out of seven matches"
What's confused you is they have used the word 'match' to represent each of the 7 rounds, as well as the overall game.
But it's basically best of 7, no spawns within a round, but everyone respawns for each fresh round. First to 4 victories wins the game.
