Tecmo Koei sent us ew screenshots and a trailer of Dead or Alive 5. It's all about some Tag Team action with Tina and Jann Lee appearing. The game will be out on September 25th in North America, three days later in Europe.
I just saw the demo yesterday and was surprised it runs at 60fps. You would think Tecmo would release the trailers like this as all videos released to date doesn't do the game justice.
So this is what i don't get. Anytime you see a shot of TTT2 it looks like shit, then this comes along that loks pretty much the same from a technical point of view but this looks amazing? Actualy, if anyhting i think the shots from the tutorial/practice mode look rather weak. The cinematic bullshots look fine but the ones captured form real gameplay look very flat and boring.
I just don't see how this looks so great. It looks fine, sure, but so does pretty much every other fighter on the horizon.
I'm just wondering when we're going to get something fresh from the fighting genre. A bit like the FPS genre, which is very much like a dirty pair of skidmarked kecks someone's been wearing for about 10 years and they've been tossed in a corner somewhere. They're starting to go a bit crusty and stale, and they smell a bit. Someone needs to open the window to let the air back in.

Its definitely not the same as TTT2 from a tech point. This has far better lighting, self shadowing, character models, animations, effects like sweat and dirt stuff you dont see there. Just look at Kokoro's hair. I guess aesthetically its up to you, but typically each new DOA is always widely considered the best looking 3D fighter.
The closest the fighting genre got to innovation was, IMO, Virtua Fighter 3 and its non-symmetrical, dynamic, nearly organic and physics altering arenas. The sand in Jeffry's beach stage would slow certain attacks ever-so-slightly and the elevation changes in Kagemaru's garden stage would force you to reconsider certain attack/defense strategies. Since then the genre has just stagnated.

if that's what you consider innovation DOA is definitely leading in that department. Its known for having interactive stages, and DOA5 has stages that change shape, angle and properties like standing in water vs standing on ground, or bouncing off a solid or elastic wall in some cases. Character size and weight also plays into juggles.

Fight Night is a pretty fresh take on the fighting genre. Apparently UFC is good too, but probably no one plays it

lighting is very good imo, but bass' beard looks so stupidly flat...
I wish I could play the demo (in Europe)
The Alpha Demo has nothing to do anymore with the E3 build. They changed the power blows, hold system, and added critical bursts (not in the Alpha) and lot's of other stuff.
With the demo you would get a wrong impression of the current game IMO (well, the Alpha demo was made in 4 weeks, lol).

P.S. Lisa reveal in pic 4 and 5.
Do we know if they'll make a newer demo?
Afaik, the demo of DoA4 came long after the release of the game itself, which is a stupid thing to do!

we dont know they will but we also have no reason to believe they wont. They have released public demos for all of their 360 or PS3 games so far except DOAX2 (DOA4,NG2,NGS,NGS2,NG3).
Looks horrible. the characters are lifeless dolls again and the gameplay looks the same as all the others but worse with the crappy super moves. After beating NG3, I see Team Ninja is nothing without "Hiroshima Face"

Visually really tops a lot of fighters out there, on par with Soul Calibur 5.
