Incredible. I don't think I've ever seen a more relevant game. I don't know any other way to describe it. For once it feels like a game for adults, in the same way that the cult-classic films appeal to a certain audience over the big flashy blockbuster movies that have no substance. If the controls are good and it plays well, I think this could change everything for games as a story-telling medium and bring a new respect for it beyond sci-fi and war games. Oh, and for the crude nature, it seems to have a lot of emotional depth to the story as well.

I'm really loving that all the storytelling seems to be done in-game, and feels very alive. I got excited and terrified when I saw that Lynch's GF was on the side of the building and you're playing that part of the game.

are you talking about heavy rain? because i think i saw that speech in a dozen horse mouths prior to the game release, no ofense lol.

Kane and lynch is a simple action game, and thats all. Yhea the mood and the feel tops the best you can acheive in cutscene and holywood getaway moments, but 90% its just a shooting game at it's core.

Games aren't art, and games that are movies are shi*, people.

It's hard for me to explain exactly what I mean. What I'm saying is that some creative people could see this game and realize that something like this could be a good medium to tell their story through as well, when they might not have considered it as being a method that's suitable for their style, even if it's a gritty crime flick that doesn't fit into stereotypical game world. I'm referring to the atmosphere, the concept, subject matter, and the vibe that the game gives off. The way it's done feels like it's legit. It feels more real than your average game that panders to a particular audience. To me, it feels like it's execution is capable of telling a story without getting in the way of the game. Sure most of it will be shooting, running, and gunning, but that fits perfectly in line with any Tarantino flick. They have done their job well if they can give the player a sense of purpose and conviction for their actions. Just shooting people is one thing... trying to survive is one thing... but if they can make you feel like you are truly out for revenge or to make somebody pay for doing you wrong, then it's going to be a good time. A good story in a game is all about context. A game is a game is a game (you're shooting, or solving puzzles, etc.) but if you feel like you are doing it for a reason, then you're set. What I like about this is that it feels just like any good, gritty flick as opposed to the cheesy feel like Stranglehold had, which felt more like a polished summer blockbuster movie.

I disagree when I hear people say that games aren't art. To say that the amount of work that goes into the artistic vision and presentation of a game doesn't constitute as art is ridiculous. You contradicted yourself also by saying that this will be just shooting, and then turning around and saying that games that are movies are shit. Which do you want?

There are also different kinds of gamers. I'm the kind of gamer that likes to be put into an immersive scenario.

*Edit ok you didn't contradict yourself, I just read wrong lol.

Anyway, I guess overall I just feel like games in general could earn more respect with these kinds of titles mixed in.

Great games are always primarily about ACTUAL DECENT GAMEPLAY and the first one of these was absolute garbage in that regard. If a game has bad controls then all the storytelling and atmosphere and gritty camera shake bullshit is simply turd polishing.

I will be the first to line up for a title like this when the gameplay matches the other production values but after the horrendous first outing its wait and see time...

I like how they are hiding the average graphics behind these awesome filters, I just hope they will have some kind of explanation for those.

They do. It's called style. The camera is used to convey the mood and sell the grit and increase the suspense and immersion( woah, my English teacher would murder me for that last sentence, lol). It's actually a very smart artistic approach that seems to make all the difference as far as selling the realism of it all...

Most realistic looking city I've seen in a videogame to date? Check
Awesome art and visual style? Check

Animations need work though, and the cover mechanics still look a little awkward...

There are some great animations too though. It's hard to know about the cover mechs without playing it- could be be fine, could suck. Looks great to me so far...

There are some nice animations in there sure, but overal they're a bit too rough around the edges (especially transitions). Cover looks a bit awkward to me anyways. But the main thing is that it'll be consistent an not a buggy mess...

the first one has too much criticism, but I for one really enjoyed it loved the setting and story along with the fact both endings were another really crappy event in Kane's hard and dark life. Had some really emotional moments due to how bad everything got for Kane and Lynch made a perfect partner. I'm hoping they ain't lost that brilliant style and defo notch the gameplay up abit as it wasn't brilliant but I still really enjoyed it. Graphics were a highlight back then for me to, look a little lack lustre now but I'll live.

Can't argue there :) Transitions are hugely important and it annoys me when they are not given enough attention. One of the reasons the NBA 2k series' animations are so successful...
