Based on the demo, this is definitely the best airplane game this generation. By a large margin.

I hated anything other than arcade flying though, I think they went *way* overboard with the other more "simulated" flying modes. There is NO WAY a plane like a spitfire will simply go out of control and crash simply because of a somewhat fast rotation to one side. Impossible, so in other words, their simulated flying is just bullshit. I wonder if this is a console thing only, or if it'll do that on PC too, specially with a joystick.

The graphics are also really good. The only thing I worry about is mission variety, so I will wait for reviews to see what the full game is like.

Sorry but you are just wrong, very wrong. I played the orginal for years, and the simulator mode on this version is incredibly similar. The flight model of Sturmovik is the most realistic ever made along Flight Simulator's.
Everyone with a little interest in flight know how difficult really is even keeping a modern plane in a straight path. Not to mention those WWII "monsters".

I gave the game a run with both the Saitek Aviator stick and the Thrustmaster HOTAS, and ended up preferring the first because of the analogue Hat switch. The 4-directions digital one of the HOTAS makes the game unplayable on simulator mode.

I'm playing the demo to death, and really can't wait for release.

based on the demo it wasnt any better then that crappy ubisoft game blazing angels (conjures up images of angels smoking weed lol) demo just felt dead and lacked any sort of excitement or set peices. it was just boring as hell.

Well, real simulators have always been a niche market. If you're not interested in the real thing, it's difficult you'll find some exitement simulating it. For aviation aficionados Sturmovik is like Megan Fox covered with a chocolate cream bikini.

Anyway, i personally think playing this one on arcade or realistic mode is nonsense. It's like playing Forza or GT in an "arcade mode" that features Out Run style phisics. It simply lacks the features that make an arcade shooter fun.

It is a flight sim, not too different from NFS fans whinning about GT. The imagery you get with Blazing Angels (a totally different game) says a lot though about your track of mind :/

Well, I've played pretty much all major flight sims on PC; from Su-27 Flanker, to Flight Simulator to Sturmovik, so I can distinguish bullcrap from realism.

I HAVE Sturmovik on PC, and never did I feel anything wrong--or extraordinary mind you--with the physics. I played the Xbox 360 demo with the controller, try it yourself that way and maybe you'll agree. I haven't tried any joystick on the Xbox 360, maybe that helps, I don't know.

@Korndog, you are wrong.

I loved the handling in the demo. If you got problems with the controls tone down the sensibility of the flight controls. About 50% sensibility feels right to me and drastically decreases stalls in realistic and simulation.
Comparing this game to Blazing Angels is an unreasonable insult, seriously.
The best WW2 aerial combat game for consoles, no doubt.

BUT I won’t buy it for a simple reason: No Luftwaffe in single player.
I’m no Nazi or something but I take any FW190 or BF109 over any Mustang or Spitfire. Being not interested in multiplayer (in which German planes have no cockpit!) leaves me with a game in which I can’t fly my favourite classics.
There is no German campaign and no German skirmish missions, that is a no go for me.
And they want to rip costumers off by offering German cockpits for multiplayer as payable DLC, another no go.

Such a nice game… but thanks no thanks.

Played both demos on PS3 and 360 to check gfx engine performance differences. If you want stability, you better go for the 360 version (steady framerate 95% of the time and no screen tearing). The PS3 version had massive screen tearing AND significant framedrops.

Sturmovik = the Ferrari of flight games. Hopefully the gameplay is not too linear.

I played both versions as well. Framerate seemed identical to me. PS3 had V-sinc issues but slightly sharper graphics that allow for better enemy sighting.
I decided to go with the PS3.

it isnt the fact it's a sim, it's the fact it's BORING, you can be both a sim and fun...but this game just doesnt manage to achieve that at all.
