Trailer Xbox 360 PS3

The long trailer of the next Silent Hill (working title) is finally here. The eighth game of the series is being developed by Vatra Games, expected to release in 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Press release:

A chilling return for Silent Hill
Konami announces eighth title in its terrifying Silent Hill series

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced it is to return to the mist-shrouded streets of Silent Hill (working title), as the eighth title in the series heads to PlayStation®3 and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

Scheduled for release in 2011, Silent Hill remains true to the franchise’s original roots, and again takes the form of a third-person horror experience. With an all-new thought-provoking storyline, players will once again find themselves face to face with their deepest sins and fears in the strange world of Silent Hill.

The new game begins after a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill. As Pendleton takes in his new surroundings, users will encounter mind-bending puzzles and horrific creatures and otherworld terrors. Armed only with the everyday objects they can find - from wooden chairs to glass bottles - to fend off their enemies, fight or flight responses are left to the player as they unravel a dark, thought-provoking storyline which will appeal to fans of the early, classic Silent Hill series.

Silent Hill enjoys a wealth of new elements to create a deep, psychological horror experience. In addition to the main storyline, players will also be presented with variable side quests that will change depending on the user’s play style, revealing further unknown evils within the town.

“We are honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, and working hard to build another unforgettable horror game that the fans truly deserve,” commented Martin Schneider, European Marketing and PR Director for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror.”

Didn't think Konami could ruin this anymore than they have, yet manage to come up with another painting by numbers, americanised rendition of Silent Hill which gets rid of EVERYTHING that made the series unique and worth caring about.

Screw you Konami!

Please... more deep characters this time, at least the cutscenes don't seem cringe-worthy like in homecoming.

Hey now let's not forget about Shattered Memories that was a damn good silent hill game, homecoming on the other hand was a load of crap.
Damn you konami why not let climax develop this one after they did such an awesome job with shattered memories :(

0 was just forgetable.

maybe they don't know how to make a "new game" in existant IPs, other than remakes.

Everytime Konami makes a Silent Hill game that follows movie standars, I want this series to end. Otherworld themes are NOT burning! That's a movie explanation!

For all intents and purposes Shattered Memories is a new game. It borrows character names from SH1 but that's it. Being allowed to re-interpret and challenge what has become very stale imagery and concepts of Silent Hill was what really made that game brilliant.

Doesn't look that bad guys, for me it needs to retain the music from the first which if it does then it might be a worthy look. That's where most Survival Horror games fail with the music and sound effects.

Well, I hear Akira Yamaoka won't be working on this, since he quit Konami to join Grashopper, so the music will be a tad different.

Anyway, about the game... well, the only new SH that I really liked was Shattered Memories and I don't think this new one will change anything. Come on, there's nobody from the old team in there, of course it can't retain its spirit... but meh... I do like some little things from the trailer.

Where's Pyramid Head? No really, I don't think they whored him out enough. Seriously I've hated every SH after 3, and it's gotten to the point where I don't even think I'll rent this one unless there is absolutely nothing else queued on my GF account. Put the series back in the original team's hands, Konami.

Team Silent still exist? I read somewhere most of the people are gone.

Not interested in this new game. Konami and these small and average studios totally ruined this awesome franchise. :(

I wonder why they took it away from the Japanese devs in the first place... And hey, I hope Pyramid Head doesn't appear again, like broman said. He's James' punisher, no one else should see him!

It looks amazing in my opinion. And "Homecoming" was actually a very good game. It's just that survival-horror seems to be out of fashion these days and everybody wants their brainless FPS games. As far as I'm concerned, give me another Silent Hill and you can keep your Halos and Resistance's to yourselves.

They should take a page from Alan Wake's sound design. The music and effects really were instrumental in the tension that game had and were incredibly well implemented. I really like the detail in the environments; it's too bad about the wonky people. Whoever rigged those models should be shot repeatedly, lol. This kind of thing baffles me, as you really need to believe the characters in games like this...

I think it looks promising from this trailer. I'm anxious to see how they balance combat and suspense this time around, as this seems to be what the series has most been struggling with. Having combat that isn't broken, while keeping that feeling of fear and vulnerability (rather than the over-used "player empowerment").
