Trailer PC PS4 Xbox One

Premiered at the PSX, the two latest trailers of Battleborn showcase new gameplay footage and reveal Toby The Destroyer, the 16th hero out of 25. A beta is coming in 2016 before the game's release on March 3rd. PS4 players who participate in the open beta will be able to try Toby and will also get for free the 26th DLC character after the launch of the title.

A lot have already wrote off this...I think single player/co-op campaign could be its saving and separate it from overwatch - they made sure to make a point of that.

Gearbox are very over rated as a developer though...surviving off borderlands, the majority of their out puts quality has be very lacking. They're also up there with ubisoft with the whole bait and switch.

The game doesn't play anything like Overwatch, but there's no avoiding that comparison. Heroes are definitely "in" and in some cases it's probably hurting these games. A lot of people have called Paragon a "hero shooter" or Overwatch a MOBA, and just have trouble telling these games apart. That's creating competition between games that aren't even in the same genre. The trend has gone as far as Call of Duty and Rainbow Six, but those are still distinctly set in the FPS space.

Battleborn has many light MOBA mechanics and doesn't really play like a typical shooter. I think it's kind of an interesting game that's bound to get steamrolled by the competition, but it's almost a different genre than Overwatch. Overwatch is pure FPS.

See, I was under the impression that Overwatch wasn't pure FPS as it has a class system and light MOBA mechanics like this.

I don't think it helps that artistically they also look quite similar...and have a similar pace to them. Where as though COD and rainbow 6 both contain guns, you can't really confuse the two as they play at such a different pace to one another.

I dunno if this getting steamrolled by the competition is a given. Obviously Overwatch has been making a lot of headlines in the gaming press lately...but that's more to do with it being a Blizzard game - the rarity of them offering a new IP and developing for console. I'd reckon the average console gamer, and majority of casual gamers (that also make up the majority of console install base) has probably more relation to borderlands and gearbox than warcraft and Blizzard. So maybe that will go in their favour. Or maybe the fact that even those following gaming sites etc still get the two confused with one another will end up benefiting it.

The character diversity and focus on match-ups is really where the similarities end. Overwatch is much more like Team Fortress 2 than a MOBA, although it does borrow some character concepts from that genre. DirtyBomb is another game that's hitting a lot of those same notes. There's no doubt in my mind that they're MOBA-inspired games, but the primary means of combat and interaction in both will feel familiar to any FPS player. And they both borrow gametype design from TF2 and Enemy Territory.

There's no in round progression or economy, no creeps or towers, etc. They're pretty straight forward FPS games when you move away from the character diversity. They're class-based shooters at heart. Pacing is another area where all of these games differ. A long round of Overwatch is ten minutes. It's a fast game.

Overwatch launching @ $60 on consoles could help them too, but it doesn't put Battleborn at any great advantage. I'm pretty confident that Overwatch is going to be a hit on the PC, and if Blizzard plays their cards right, it should be a hit on consoles as well. They've obviously put a lot of effort into making it playable in that environment already. The PC beta has pretty extensive gamepad support.

And maybe you're right. I've seen a lot of cynicism surrounding this game though, and I see a lot of people who can't seem to tell any game with a big cast of characters apart. I wouldn't be shocked if someone called Street Fighter a "hero shooter" at this point. It's got heroes and projectiles!
