GSY Tech PC PS4 Xbox One

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunts just received its 1.05 update on console so we had to take geralt back to the swamps to see how he could handle a little storm in this demanding area. We'll start with the PS4 version but as you'll see, there still is no triple buffering on Sony's console, but we reckon it was not planned for this patch. Maybe next time? Our Xbox One video shouldn't be too long to come so be a little patient.
Update: Xbox One video added.

Still bad frame rates especially on the PlayStation 4. But they are getting closer. I just don't understand why there are frame rate drops in the swamps. Nothing heavy is really happening. The game has better looking area's that run really smooth (30fps)

Slighty higher on xb1 in swamps.

But 900p on xboxone vs 1080p on PS4.

44% difference in pixel output.

More like 25FPS on X1 and 20FPS on PS4. I don't care what the resolution is...performance is key and none of them are getting the job done with what the devs are tying to deliver. However, if given the choice of slightly sharper visuals or slightly smoother game, I'm taking frames over rez any day of the week.

True though I suspect it's more a CPU issue.

Xbox One version has dynamic res - 1080p-900p, depending on the scene.

In fact, PS4 and Xbox One games should use dynamic scaling more often, since it allows performance to be maintained IMO.

During normal gameplay xb1 does not hit 1080p, only in certain cut scenes.

As for PS4, x1 in this game. Some scenes with more going on are 30fps. Obviously there are still bugs in the game.

Others comparing consoles to pc.

PC is whatever you have in your rig, all rigs are different and perform differently.

I game on both and enjoy both.

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed by how this game performs on the ps4. It's 2015 and we still have to deal with sub-30fps in such big releases. It really interfered my experience with that game, despite the fact that the overall performance is rather on the solid side of things. Not to mention, that this game is fantastic.
I'm currently considering to switch to PC for selected multiplatform games since I saw a video on youtube where an under-400$ gaming PC was able to handle this game at framerates of 35-50fps with even higher settings turned on. It was shocking.

Still, it's great to see that the devs are constantly trying to enhance the console performance by providing patches.

The whole 1080p issue is defo hurting the PS4 as it seems devs are scared to bring it down for increased performance for fear of the backlash off the folk that put graphics above gameplay.

It's not 1080p that's hurting the ps4...it's rushing games out before they're ready that's hurting gaming full stop. It's not lack of horse power why this game struggles to hold a steady framerate, it's lack of optimisation. 5 patches in less than a month..crazy. Day 1 patches...Batman runs like a dream but had a 3 gig day 1 patch...these are games that get delayed under the excuse of polish.

They all need to stop focusing on dlc and start actually making sure the main game is fully polished, working, and stable, before release.

Nothing in the swamps that really stresses the CPU. It's a very GPU bound area. Cities are more CPU bound.

What it needs is triple buffering

And as for dynamic res. the GAME is 900p. Cutscenes and the start menu are 1080p

"Meanwhile, the promised 'dynamic resolution' solution on Xbox One doesn't appear to hit the 1080p target in any of our samples. Instead, for the most part the game renders at 1600x900, with only video cut-scenes providing true 1080p output for any noticeable length of time"

I really don't know why the devs were even talking about that feature if it was going to be incorporated like that.

I swear..in Novigrad the framerate is actually worse since this patch. Some of the NPC/shop keeper faces look slightly less detailed too..but that could just be in my mind from switching between it and batman.

Then bring it down to 720P in few years time ? Fps drops is normal. I think they should just work on optimization and other tricks. Frame drops is some heavy areas is ok. But little weird it happens here

It should not be normal, Framerate should be the no.1 priority.

I am not saying a 30fps game should be running below 25ps at any point. That indeed is horrible. But since it happens only in few section of game that is not a deal breaker. This is something they can improve or in their next game instead of simply reducing the pixels to take easy way out.

There is no fog in the video but i have seen fog in that area on Xbox One... maybe the fog has an affect on the frame drop? i don't know if that is the case but i would lie to see a test where they both have fog.

heavy use of transparencies tend to have an impact on performance.
