I kinda liked PDZ, it had great Multiplayer and some good music too. Music is often underdone in games.

Please people, don't mistake this for PDZ. That game was average at best, but I regard the original Perfect Dark as one of the great video games of all time - in some aspects I rate it as number one.

Can't wait for this. I'm guessing it'll have online multiplayer, which will be awesome.

People seem to hate PDZ these days, but it was good game back in 2005.

Im not sure if Perfect Dark still holds up today frankly. When Golden Eye came out for N64, I almost shat my pants after playing it. It was so good that I unlocked pretty much everything and we played hundreds of multi-player matches.

Tried it again a year ago, and it was so disappointing. Ugly, sluggish and scruffy. Nothing like I remember it. If you didn't play Golden Eye when it was new, you cannot imagine how good it was. Today, its hard to see how I enjoyed it so much.

Playing Perfect Dark today, will it be just as good as when it came out? Im not so sure.

I agree. But I am still interested in playing this, just for that feeling of nostalgia. Also this version looks to be nicely touched up, the weapon graphics look to be completely redone, and it runs at 60FPS. So if anything it'll be better than the original.

Most people are aware that the feeling of playing these games won't be the same as when we first booted them up on the N64 but, as B0vril quite rightly states, there's nothing wrong with playing something purely for that nostalgic feeling. I associate games like Perfect Dark and Goldeneye with probably my most enjoyable generation of gaming. Therefore, it'll be good to play these games again and experience their iconic moments once more, even if they aren't quite as spectacular as they were first time round.

Most people just aren't willing to accept that old does not mean better. Or rather they have a problem seeing the difference between nsoptalgia and quality. Just because you palyed a game back when you were a kid does not mean that it's the best game ever made. Even if a game was great for it's time that doesn't mean it still is and having a fan actually acknowledging that, i find, is pretty rare :) *pa-dum-pshhh!* Just realized that i inadvertently made a little pun there.

I freaking love Faxanadu on the NES but i'd never call it the best game ever, i know that by todays standards it sucks pretty bad :)

But yeah, this is one for the fans, and though i suspect they will have updated the controls to make it playable for a new audience, i doubt it will be as glorious for a newcomer as the old fans would have you think.

I played PD briefly on the N64 (A few levels in SP and Multiplayer) and thought the co-op mode was great despite the frame rate issues. With cleaner visuals and a solid frame rate I imagine the co-op being just as good if not better than what it was like back when I originally played it.
PD was a better game than Goldeneye IMO and I have played both, I have actually played Goldeneye more but thought PD was a better game overall.
I'm not saying this game will be the best game ever but I definitely think if you compare it to the majority of most FPS' released this gen, this game will be more enjoyable than most.

I tried PD a while back as well just to get a reference and i have to say that i think it was pretty damn bad. It wasn't the worst game ever made but even the shittiest FPS today plays better than that imo. The controls were the greatest hindrance but there were other issues as well. For it's time and platform (consoles overall) it was great but so much has happened in the genre since then and it just can't compare anymore.

Purely a subjective matter of course, but I don't think older games should be judged by today's standards because, in many ways, it's an uneven - and therefore an unfair - playing field. I probably consider Perfect Dark and Goldeneye to be the best two FPS games ever made, and the fact they don't play quite as well as they used to doesn't change my mind in the slightest. If this was the case, you could argue that the best games are all confined to this generation, which I can say most certainly isn't the case. I don't think there are many classic games that hold up well in today's times - even Ocarina Of Time and Mario 64 struggle quite a bit - so it's somewhat of an irrelevant argument if you ask me.

I will always judge the quality of older games in relation to when I played them all those years ago. And for me, Perfect Dark is unrivalled in the FPS genre in terms of pure fun.

blm: Your entire post just strengthens my point though, at least in my eyes it does. The nostalgia factor is more important than the comparative quality of the games. Now that's fine but if we were to objectively look at PD and Goldeneye side to side with a modern day FPS they wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell. And no, i don't think that OoT is a better game than the later installments, i think they are all improvements on the old concept and the same goes for Mario. Video games are so young that they are still moving forward rapidly and everything from storytelling to gameplay mechanics have improved by leaps and bounds since then. Comparing old games to new ones might not be "fair" but it's the only real way to go without looking though the rose tint of nostalgia.

I understand what you are saying but no matter how i try to look at it you are basically saying that the old games you love are better because they are old games you love. Kids growing up with gears of war today will have the same way of looking back at the glory days of the 360 and thinking that every thing that's released in 2020 is a pile of repetitive crap. It's just how things work, but that doesn't make it true :P
