Turn10 have updated the carlist for Forza Motorsport 2 once again, as to be seen on their car list webpage. This time they're presenting the Japanese production cars in the game, and they have of course released a bunch of images of them.

Finally I can do a fair comparison shot of FM2 and GT5.

Forza Motorsport 2: http://images.xboxyde.com/gallery/public/5118/847_...
Gran Turismo 5: http://images.playsyde.com/gallery/public/4639/106...

Looks like Turn 10 has nothing on the GT guys in terms of polygons, although that's the last thing I'm interested in right now. This game has some amazing customization and online (check out gametrailers.com)

That's just a technicality. Both are on PS3 and take advantage of it, so GTHD is GT5 Lite as far as I'm concerned.

Ah I see what you're saying. Yeah, I see it as being a GT5 Prologue kind of. Anyway, too much GT talk in a Forza 2 thread. I wonder when the Forza 2 demo is suppose to be released, I'm probably guessing sometime after the retail version is released?

also, Fear the Civics. That is all

GTHD makes its cars as a single body (Chasis-bumpers-headlights), no damage= not worrying about falling parts, which is why it looks so smooth where the bumper, headlights and chasis meet.

Certainly isn't.

http://images.playsyde.com/gallery/public/4466/106...

more like.
You can see the shadowing detail is much more realistic for a start.

FM is far more stylised. The reflections are *way* stronger for example (personally I think they are too strong).

Vehicles in GT are laser scanned, so they will have loads of detail in the original model. I'd expect when the rest of the game starts demanding more resources (eg tracks, more cars, etc) you will see the car detail reduced. Or maybe not. They have enough time to work on it.
I don't know if FM cars are hand modelled or not.
However FM has considerable demands for other resources such as damage geometry and of course the custom skinning (which will be quite significant, certainly several MB per car once generated)

that's because Forza runs at 60FPS, not 30 & actually includes proper physics and damage. If Tur n10 only focused on graphics I'm sure it'd look amazing but would remove a lot of the fun. Plus Forza actually has customisation!

By the way, that shot of Gran Turismo is CGI anyway, not in-game

GT:HD has NO damage model and NO additional cars on track. Comparisons are not valid at the moment.

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm no GT fanboy, but you guys are discrediting one of the most innovative and successful franchises in gaming. I doubt GT5 won't include proper physics! I'm just saying Forza could look better.

The GTHD shots mean nothing. They would need a second PS3 to run a background to match the cars and a third to run lower detail opposing cars. Forza2 has to do with just the one 360 sitting on your desk (or four if you go four screen :P). I love the soft lighting model on the white car though, no matter if its faked (baked). Reminds me of the great realtime global illumination effect on characters in Gears of War.

As for Forza2 shots, looking amazing but as with all bullshots, we wont get to enjoy supersampling like that on our screens unfortunately. Then again at 60fps the jaggies move so fast they wont matter much.

The problem is that you said that FM2 has nothing on GTHD/GT5 when it comes to graphics, while as of right now the makers of GTHD/GT5 cannot put more than one car on screen at a mere 30fps (yes your read right, only one car maximun, I have the game/demo and it sux). You see, GTHD has only one car, 30fps, 2D background, no splitscreen, no customization, no damage deformation, no in depth physics simulation, etc etc. If you are going to talk about graphical accomplishments, as of right now, FM2 thrumps on GT5/GTHD. IMO, if right now they struggle that much to put all those things and so far can only put one car, I bet they will have to downgrade the graphics in order to allow for GT5/GTHD to match at least half of the features of FM2. Sorry, but the GT team doesnt have it anymore, and maybe they never had it. After that BS of removing online gameplay after they promised it (GT4 in PS2), I realized how limited they are.
