GSY Review PS5

Astro's Playroom is the first Playstation 5 we tried when we received the console, so it is only normal that it would be our first review on Sony's new console, even though it's completely free. Inside you will find our verdict along with a gameplay video showing tiny bits of the game. Our Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales review is in the making but we've had to reencode our video review and it's taking forever (more than 25 minutes in 4K) so be patient.

Verdict

Astro's Playroom is the perfect example to showcase the potential of the DualSense, opening new doors to much more immersive experiences. As the game is preinstaller in every Playstation 5, everyone will be able to try it out to see for themselves what this new controller is made of. No need to beat about the bush then, we can really see no reasons why you wouldn't play the game and why you wouldn't have a great time with it. In terms of content, we also really enjoyed being taken down to memory lane, revisiting the History of the Playstation brand, remembering our younger years with the PS1 and PS2 for example. It's clearly not a game which is meant to steal the crown from iconic platformers like Mario or even Crash Bandicoot, its main strength is to be found in the way it uses the controller and conveys new sensations to the player, but it's perfectly fine this way. We can only vouch for ourselves obviously, but we've fallen under Astro's spell and we're not ashamed to confess it. We'll be live playing the game in French in about an hour or so, so if you don't mind the foreign language, don't hesitate to drop by.
  • On the upside
  • So cute
  • 4K/60fps
  • The perfect showcase for the DualSense
  • A real museum dedicated to Playstation
  • It's free!
  • On the downside
  • Not very long if you're not a completionist
  • Can't think of anything else sorry...

Thanks for the coverage, Drift.

I'm somewhat sad, Digital Foundry just broke my poor little heart with the following:

"So to put it simply: no, you can't run Bloodborne at 60fps or indeed solve its dodgy frame-pacing issues."

They didn't even resolve the frame-pacing issues... At this point, I'm ready to accept we will never see the grandiosity and divine Bloodborne at 4K@60fps untill the PlayStation 4 is properly emulated in 10-15 years. At which point I will most likely be dead already. Would have been nice... fuck my life. T_T

PS. Will you guys do an English review for Astro's Playroom? And/or Spider-Man: Miles Morales as well?
