GSY Review PS5 Xbox Series X PC PS4 Xbox One Switch

Back in the 70s, 80s and 90s, Grendizer was a huge hit on French television so when older gamers learned that Microïds had launched the development of Grendizer - Feast of the Wolves, there was both fear and excitement. Considering the French publisher is only known for small scale projects, expectations could not be set very high, but even so, it's impossible not to be disappointed by the end result. First of all, framerate is all over the place and it's not acceptable for a game running on current gen hardware. We tried to play the PS4 version in backward compatibility but it made little to no difference, which proves there is definitely something wrong as framerate is not locked on both systems. Since there is no option to lock it at 30 fps, it makes the experience quite unpleasant. It's still playable mind you, but it's just not how it should be played. Aside from the technical issues, the game's mechanics are too simplistic and seem more meant for chlidren than adults. Some might say why not, but since there is no recent Grendizer anime, it would have made more sense to target older players. The story-driven sequences are not interesting to play and the use of still images for the dialogues is not very immersive and the passages which pay tribute to shoot-them-ups are not especially exciting (the worst ones being those where we gen to fly Goldorak). The beat 'em up aspect of the game is more passable, but it's not enough to justify the price tag because of the lack of variety, and again, with such poor performance, it's just not enjoyable at all.
