GSY Review
PS5
Xbox Series X
PC
PS4
Xbox One
Nobody expected it, most didn't even know it existed, Shady Parts of Me has just been announced during the Game Awards and it is now available on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 (it goes without saying that the game also runs on Series X/S and PS5). The good news is that it's not just a nice title, it's simply excellent and we urge you to check it out.
Verdict
Shady Parts of Me is not a nice surprise, it's one of the indie games we will remember this year, like Braid and Limbo back in the days. In the 7 hours or so that it took us to complete it (without finding all the collectibirds), it never ceases to amaze us by its arts and clever puzzle mechanics. The only true downside if we had to find one would be maybe the girl's annoying voice (her shadow sounds so much better), other than that it was an excellent experience from start to finish. Puzzles get harder and harder and although they are not impossible to beat, they require some thinking. We got stuck on a few occasions, then finally found the solution once we had figured out the game's own logic, but do not expect a very hardcore title. Collecting all the birds will undoubtedly be tricky though, so if you want a challenge, find them all. At the end of the end, Shady Parts of Me deserves some light and we truly hope it finds its audience so it doesn't get stuck in the shady parts of the different digital stores (Steam, Xbox Live and Playstation Store).
- On the upside
- A smart and inventive puzzle game
- Amazing art
- Some really beautifully crafted scenes
- Trippy soundtrack
- A surprise release of an excellent game
- On the downside
- We're not big fans of the girl's childish voice
- Cyberpunk will most certainly steal its thunder
