There are actually more images if you go here: http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topne...

The multiplayer map looks pleasant.

I like the rain. Was hoping they would put in some nice looking rain into Reach, just like they did in ODST (except it wasn't nice looking).

Most apparent it needs some AF. Why the hell doesn't every game get that out of the box? It's way less taxing than AA and makes a huge impact on image quality.

I'm impressed by the look of this game, in mostly a negative way sadly. Those much talked about animations must be the shit to impress me now, or those battles will have to be awe-inspiring, we see none of that in these shots of course.

Honestly, anyone claiming to be impressed by this has to be the biggest fanboy in existence. It looks utterly mediocre and no amount of love for the franchise fixes that. I'm sure it'll be a good game but it looks pretty crummy. Like Halo 3 with a film grain filter :P

Just read this article if you're so unimpressed.

utterly mediocre? that will that professional "expertise" being put to good use again huh.

I think you need to remember what Halo Reach is.. it's not a tighly scripted corridoor shooter. You on a far greater open field of combat.. with great number of AI functioning seperate from one another (not all running at you in a shared animation like L4D for example).

Besides which.. the textures in the last shot look great

Technically there is no rain in ODST. You hear it raining, but there's no visible rain. the Halo3 engine just didn't support it so the odst devs just put in some rainy soundeffects to fool the player :)

Hmm, yes, old bean! *takes a whif* I'm getting hints of a stale odour, with notes of meh, a slight scent of average, with a tinge of blandness in the mix.

Well, that's my expert view for the visuals. I think the meat of the game in the gameplay will be a decent dish.

I'd love to see a typical fps do all the calculations a Halo game requires of it's AI etc and still look this good

WOW... reading the articles of those who have seen/played it is getting me even more pumped. All the gameplay changes and improvments (AL, NPCs on screen at once, armor sets, player movement) all sound great. Looking at these screens will just make the wait that more unbearable until I can get my hands on the Beta.

I've yet to see any AI in action and as such i can only judge what i see and so far it doesn't impress. I love how when you think a game doesn't look spectacular you always get the "how do you know Mr. Psychic!? You haven't played it!" line but when a game gets praise, that same logic doesn't apply? PR hype doesn't sell it for me and the media available to me looks pretty "meh".

Anyone else notice that the screenshots are in 1080p (and not obviously upscaled)? If it's the native resolution, then that WILL be an upgrade from the previous installments, which have been sub-hd so far.

I thought halo 3 was largely a scripted corridor shooter, it sure as hell wasnt a non linear open planned event with enemies going about their own business before you got there.
Sure they disguise the nature of the game, or at least try to, but theres lots of funneling in there, and even though the corridors are a bit bigger than other games, theyre still largely the same principle.
Enemies AI doesnt start up till you get within certain range, killing so many enemies triggers scripts that call in reinforcements etc.

TBH, these screens impress me more than the last batch, at least theres a little variety here instead of halo generic desert environment #7293
