EA and DICE today unleashed the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo on Xbox Live Marketplace, while European PS3 owners have to wait until February 4th (US 11th). Inside is a video showing the demo map.
EA press release:
“After the success of the PS3 beta, we’re excited to provide gamers -- especially our long-supporting, rabidly passionate PC fans -- with another opportunity to get into the game before release,” says Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2. “Our fans have been a huge part of the franchise’s success and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the amazing gameplay and unforgettable Battlefield moments in Battlefield: Bad Company 2.”
The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 console demo and PC beta will feature Port Valdez, a new vehicle focused map where up to 24 players (32 on PC) will compete against each other as either the US or Russian armies in the game’s Rush multiplayer mode. Players will have access to five land and three air vehicles where the Russian side can use everything in their arsenal including Main Battle Tanks as well as the fast-moving Quad Bikes and Mobile Armored AA. The fight will also be packed with plenty of infantry combat fought alongside the waterline towards a great oil industrial landscape in the Alaskan mountains.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be in stores on March 2, 2010 in North America and March 4, 2010 in Europe for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the PC. The Limited Edition can be pre-ordered now on all platforms at no extra cost, with participating retailers worldwide (while supplies last).

Why is the assault class handing out ammo boxes? Most of them are too busy charging the bases to understand that they're the real support class this time. Nothing in the game makes sense anymore if you look at the kits. The engineer is overpowered like hell, and why is he using silence sub-machine guns? Where is the special forces class? The medic is some sort of support/medic hybrid which just doesn't work well since they can't drop ammo to themselves anymore. Recon with C4? Really? I hope you can make custom classes.
The map is useless. It's impossible to spot enemies near you. You see red arrows all over the place, then suddenly nothing. I see people running around each other in circles. It's also way too small.
There's a few more things I don't like as well, so overall I am a bit disappointed. BC1 and 1943 felt a lot better than this. Can't believe DICE would release such a unpolished demo. I hope the final game is a lot better, but do want to take the chance?
Like zlimness said, the class system is a fucking disaster in many ways, but once you start customizing classes it does get better (though still needs a lot of work).
I was really looking forward to this but after having such a hard time getting into a match that actually works, and then just to find out the game still feels as bad, and I kind of think actually worse than the beta played.
Not sure how they could have done it, but I swear this feels and plays worse than before.
I'm not really sure what I wanted BC2 to be, but I sure know it's not this mess. Maybe after more playtime I'll get into it, but so far my first couple matches have left me very unimpressed to say the least.
DICE can do much better than this. Blows my mind they think these controls are acceptable.
Lowering the contrast did make things look abit better though. And the snow effects, explosions, and sound, all stand out.
Gameplay, battlefield/bad companys never been as arcade accessable as the COD series. You do have to battle with the gun's abit as you aim.. and coming straight out of MW2 to it it feels very odd, and unresponsive..you can never feel like you have too much confidence on actually hitting where your sights aimed.
When the game works though it shines, just like the last one did. Vehicles add alot..getting in the choppers great fun.. and the servers, when they're not down, have all been lag free.
I hope they polish it up abit before release.. the fact that they're calling the pc version of the demo (offers the same maps ect) a beta, fills me with abit of hope that this isnt the finished product. Ofcourse the way the term "beta"'s been thrown around lately so close to release dates you have to wonder just what the point of a beta is at this stage
and I never said it was hard to get kills, I simply don't like how little accuracy you have from far distances. I think it's much more "arcade like" to make assault rifles that have such a large margin of error in accuracy. Recoil is one thing, but this game gets pretty out of hand. I shouldn't unload a clip into someone's back and have them turn around while I reload my clip to knife me. The hit detection is just too sloppy or at least inconsistent.
This is just my impression of the game. If others like it, well good for you. I don't really give a fuck, but don't give me that "it's not arcade friendly like CoD" bullshit b/c that is one lame fucking co-out. Far too many people on far too many boards gripe about the controls for it to be an issue for CoD fanboys only.
Sorry, that excuse just really pisses me off sometimes...
Once again, I "get" the controls in that I know how to use the guns properly and I get more kills than deaths etc... but that still doesn't make it FUN to fire a weapon in this game. In Rainbow Six, Halo, CoD, Ghost Recon, BF2, Far Cry, etc... it's really fun to fire the weapons and use the guns.
In BC2 demo it feels annoying and bland. Don't know how to better word it.
The vehicles are great and the sound is AMAZING (except the gun sounds need more bass) and the map is well designed. Most of the game has a lot of good ideas going for it.
I just simply am having a really hard time getting past how little fun the controls are for me. I think it's the damage model that kills the fun more than anything. As much as people talk about BC2 being more realistic, or less "arcade" than a certain other shooter, it sure does take an unrealistic amount of bullets to kill someone with a machine gun.
That kind of damage model should be reserved for games like Halo or Killzone.

But I do agree with you in that the guns don't feel all that good, not bad though. Now Crysis that was good.
im from germany my english i think isn't good :D
but i want say or i wonder, i seems nobody checked the game is slow and it feels like playing in slow motion. ich have the first game but i can't get really into this cuz of the low framerate. no one is talking about, you all find the framerate okay? in the last weeks i was playing MW2 what got a smooth framerate, now i was schockt. the demo in 2009 on GamesCom i was playing was smooth, how can this be? hope the final game is better, otherwise it would be sad.
Game is sloppy and not fluid also....and it comes from someone who is not cod fanboy(quite opposite to be honest.) First game was awesome but sadly I got to cancel my preorder for BC2 Gotta see full game first.
i will first rent the game, if bad sry ea
And the game is just another huge update. The only new thing was snow. Woow!! Not worth 60€ in my eyes.
This isn't COD you cant snipe with an assault rifle just because you add an acog.
Sorry, that excuse just really pisses me off sometimes...
I also had no real problems with the snipers. I was kicking ass and never got frustrated with them. I also like that the Vehicles are better balanced. You just have to be more cautious, which is what you'd have to do in real life anyway. What I really like is how you have to change your tactics to be successful. I think this is what frustrates people coming from more arcadey games. I wasn't in love with the classes at first, but am really coming around. It's cool that you need to not move too much if you want to be effective with the LMGs. I'm pretty happy with it, and can't wait for the final...
It's prefect trust me.I was playing BC1 for two years and this was my major complaing, the ridiculous amount of shots it took to kill someone. In this one i've been playing with the scar from the engineer class and it takes 3 4 hots to get someone down.super precise and deadly...
And don't forget this game is going to have an hardcore mode, so there it will be even faster to take someone down.
All I have to say to this is that my brother sucks ass at most shooters, but he loves BF games b/c a. they are much slower so it's easier for him to stand a chance in battles and b. you can get a lot of points from things other than just getting kills so he is all about the objective/team play aspect of the game.
All I saw in that demo were people camping w/ sniper class or running off to find a fight when they are on defense. I don't think I've seen one match yet were the defense won.
But after cooling down I'll admit I was being too hard on the game due to being pissed off. I just don't see myself getting used to such a sluggish control scheme, it just feels very frustrating, almost like the framerate is extra slow.
As for the foolish comments "are you sure you are hitting them?", well there is a fucking hit indicator in your crosshairs so yeah it's pretty easy to tell when you are hitting them, unless there is some other reason the crosshairs change when you are aiming directly at someone's back.
I've played it three times now, all for about 2 hours each time just because I get addicted. I'm not finding anything particularly annoying at the moment, apart from sometimes when I spawn in I don't get a parachute, so I just fall to my death.
The shooting is a little clunky, yes, but I think that makes people concentrate on objectives a little more, which is always good in my books.
