Talk about a mouthful.

Inscrit depuis 7410 JoursAnd is probably better than having just one persons opinion.
What good is taking an average of an arbitrary number anyway, especially when the source winds up being four very poorly written reviews.
Inscrit depuis 7293 JoursJust as well 1up don't write much as when people start to write loads they tend to become more bias.
Bias is something that everyone has in some way or another, and seeing as Famitsu are writing with the Japanese gaming comunity in mind i don't think it is for us to complain about what kind of games they like in general.
What amuses me is certain people here seem to find any excuse to dis Japanese people and i find that a bit sad.
Everything is subjective.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
Inscrit depuis 7410 JoursI don't personally believe that Famitsu is any more an indication of what the Japanese people are thinking than EGM is an indication of what I'm thinking...
And some things are not subjective..I mean just read the text to their reviews. A little blurb that tells basically nothing about the product they are "reviewing" is not a very good way to go about finding out more about a title/product/whatever it is they're trying to score..they might as well just answer it like a yes or no question, "Is this game good?"
yes/no/no/yes ;)
What good is a score without a reasonable opinion to back it up? Good for arguing about on message boards and that's about it.
Inscrit depuis 7293 JoursDoesn't mean i have to agree with it, nor does it have an impact on what i think.
I don't see why people have such a problem with Famitsu, as i said it's not writen with westerners in mind.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
Inscrit depuis 7410 JoursAs for the more ignorant comments in this thread, well, I'll keep an eye on that. Everyone knows the best Japanese blog targeted towards a western audience is MasaMania.com though--it's moral entertainment :)
Inscrit depuis 7293 JoursWhat an absurd thing to say though, many things in Japanese are hard to translate to english without losing some meaning.
Also you you are relying on the translator/translation to convey what is actually being said.
So i really don't think you can comment on the quality of the text in an article.
Japanese are a culture who enjoy humour (watch their TV programs and ridiculous Game shows) so it wouldn't surprise me if publications used such humour in their magazines.
Not ever magazine is up their asses like Edge are .. :)
Marumaro for the WIN !!
Inscrit depuis 7410 JoursI know things get lost in translation, but what's not there at all can't be lost.
On the contrary though, your Japanese comprehension must be so high that you're catching all of these great reviews that go over my silly western head.
Inscrit depuis 7293 JoursAnyways its good to see Pokemon battle got a good score :)

I think it will take a very long time for Western games (or a Western console) to succeed in Japan, if ever.. There are just so many Japanse gamedevelopers that know much better how to make games the Japanese like, or better said are used to like..
