Dam seems to be the game delay week what with Crysis also :(

Wise Decision Ubi. Enough games are coming end of this year and Splinter cell would definately get lost among the crowd.

It needs it I think. I think Scarface called it a couple of weeks ago in another thread and I gotta agree. Even AC's crowd stuff looks glitchy and awkward, and I shudder to think what state SC's must be then.

This'll prolly let them sort AC for a glorious release this autumn and give Sam his due deserved attention.

I called this before E3 and then again at E3 when it no showed :P

Ubi has AC, so in many ways they would compete in sales. Further, the fall is too loaded and SC5 looked to need some polish. So a delay into the slower Jan-March period could clean up like Lost Planet last year and not compete with their own AAA titles like AC and avoid the "death by Grand Theft Halo".

Good move.

How does this suck for gamers?

August - December is loaded.

January - March (coughJULYcough) is pretty dead.

Gamers win with a fresh game coming out in a slow period.
Ubi wins by getting more press time.
Gamers win with a more polished game.
Ubi wins with better sales and not competing with AC sales.
Gamers win because SC5 sells well and the franchise lives on instead of being damaged by the stupid glut of too many titles this fall.

Unless you are a diehard SC fan, and excited for the "open stealth daylight" changes, and don't have any other games this fall of interest, I cannot see how anyone loses.

A better game, more polish, better exposure.

To be quite honest a number of other titles could use delays. Quake Wars and TF2/Half Life and Brother in Arms needed to be summer titles as well, not fall. Epic and Free Radical were SMART to delay UT3 and Haze intol 2008. More polished games that don't get overlooked because this winter has Halo/GTA written all over it with a smattering of ME, Bioshock, AC, Call of Duty 4, etc.

It sucks if it's the only game you wanted, or your a die hard SC fan. But yes, if you take the angle that it'll be a better game, then it doesn't suck. Of course that's not necessarily true.

I was hoping for that, too. The game has great legacy but apparently last 2 Splinter Cells didn't sell good enough or developers got bored with the same thing over and over, so they decided to completely redefine gameplay. Controls got streamlined for sure, but I hope the game itself remains moderately deep. Ubidays demo didn't look that exciting though and framerate was very choppy, so it definitely requires some work.

Didnt sell good enough ? as far as I know Splinter Cell chaos Theory has almost reached 1 million worldwide on Xbox only! besides IMO Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is The best Splinter Cell to date!

However, you can't deny that the series has seen continuous decline in sales and this is what every publisher wants to prevent. That's why they reinventing the series.

The 14 Million figure is for all platforms and the numbers i gave you are for XBOX only! Now for me I thought Splinter Cell Chaos theory was the best game of the series despite it not selling loads like the originals. by your thinking, then every games that doesn sell well must not be good enough. I can give you hundreds of titles that didnt sell well but were in fact BRILLIANT games, Beyond Good and Evil, Psychonauts, Ico come to mind .... and the list goes on which brings me to my Point:

Poor sales DO NOT MEAN the game was bad!

Don't jump to conclusions buddy! I love Splinter Cells, I never played the first one but I played every SC since Pandora Tomorrow. I think it's almost the best stealth franchise second to Thief only (not that they have that much competition). However, I'm only stating facts - the series sales were declining, budget grew with every game so I don't find it surprising that they change the game completely. I hope that the change will be for better when all is said and done.
