Wow!
http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?...

I have a question here, are ther any differences between the original to the third iteration or is it literally the same game with only different tracks ?

It seems this franchise is turning into a cash cow! and with rumours floating around about 4 new iterations hitting the market this year, I think they are really pushig it too far to be honest.

personally, I havent played any of them and dont plan to, anytime soon :D

Some will say the Neversoft haven't properly captured the feel of GHII that well and it's lost something that you can't put your finger on. i.e. the songs are much harder on "hard" and less fun to play in comparison to it's predecessor. Others point at a better set list, online play and the boss battles as good improvements. Of course the first point is a matter of taste. The wireless guitar is pretty sweet though.

The achievements are dumb and the DLC pricing and releasing is rubbish compared to Rock Band. That's for sure.

Beyond that, it's pretty much as you were.

I dunno.. I think Rock Band's DLC is a bit rubbish too. There was content available immediately, for a game that has a much shorter track list than GHIII. It's all a matter of perception, I think. Rock Band should have shipped with more songs to begin with, so their DLC being slightly cheaper than GHIII's doesn't strike me as that much of a bargain and the fact that there's content on a damn near weekly basis is a bit of an insult to injury :/

It is a lot harder than two. The last boss battle on Hard is ridiculous.

Whether the game shipped with enough songs is a fair point. I can't buy it yet and importing is very expensive so I haven't tried it yet. However, I would venture that the presence of regular and more reasonably priced DLC makes it much easier to be selective over what to buy. I can skip 90% of it and spend the money when a song's available that I'd really want to play because I know that with regular releases, there will be one eventually.

With GHII there was a very limited selection of song packs, none which had all 3 songs that I'd like to purchase within and were more expensive. This trend is repeating with GHIII, just with a few more songpacks. It's still irregular though so I've no idea when the next one is coming out so users are more compelled to buy into what's available just because it's there.

Even if the difference is minor, I'm more likely to see better value out of my Rock Band DLC purchases (every song will be one I want at a slightly better price) than GHIII's.

Yeah lol, medium/hard(barely, I mean barely) for me when I play it at my friends house. Just glad he didn't start playing it with his back facing the TV like some of his other videos. He's some sort of robot demon child :[

Agreed! I've been stuck on that damn battle for well over a week now. It's a difficult enough song on hard, and it certainly doesn't get any easier when you get hit with the note doubler, increased difficulty, or the fret reversal. I've recently moved on to expert in the hopes that the gradual increase in difficulty will translate into the hard boss battle being easier.

This is my first real go with a GH game, and I absolutely love it! Hell, I found the demo fun, and i was playing that with the regular 360 controller. There's just something really satisfying about nailing those tricky licks!

Note: I Agree that it's hard. I don't necessarily agree that it's harder than two as I've yet to play it :P

Maybe try playing it? The game actually had very little appeal to me to be honest. I can play guitar, so I thought a dumbed-down virtual version of it would be retarded. I was quite wrong.

Definitely! I'll emphasise how true this is. I play guitar aswell, but while the feeling of being "a part of music" (which is the big appeal of being into any instrument really) is very similar, there's a different sense of reward in the two.

With a real guitar you're free to do whatever as long as it sounds great, here it'll punish you if you don't do it like you're supposed to, so they're ultimately very different experiences.

I think the only real off-putting factor about GH is that it's very hard rock oriented. It's changed a little bit with GH3, but it still makes you feel a bit left out if you aren't at all into the "culture" of hard rock - or even find it annoying. In this sense I think Rock Band is really on to something, being more neutral and offering all sorts of music.

I hope GH will evolve into a Sing Star type of deal where you have a main series, but also spinoffs that offer the style of music you're into. Either that, or make DLC more attractive and give players the option of customising your band, character and tours. Although with that approach I think it'll alienate a lot of fans that rightfully felt that it was a game for them and their generation.

The point of Rock Band, though, is that they want to convey the sense of playing as a group (obviously). That is why you get tracks which are nowhere near as guitar-oriented. Guitar Hero wouldn't be as fun without those heavy tracks with the killer solos. I pretty much despise all the softer songs on GH3 cause they are just plain boring to play (I'm looking at you Weezer). As you said though, I think people should have a choice and a bigger variety in the DLC could work wonders for the game.

My second biggest problem with Rock Band is actually the track list. For me, any 70s punk or indie rock is considered too much; I find it simple, bland, and not even remotely fun to play or listen to. I mean, bar after bar of endless of the same 8th and 16th notes is fucking boring(not to mention frustrating to play on Rock Band's p.o.s. guitar).

Now it's not that I only want music I'd listen to day to day - there was stuff in GH3 that I wouldn't actually listen to, but I found amazingly fun to play - but I actually want stuff that's...well...fun to play. This is just my own personal opinion, and I realise that other people may actually enjoy that indie nonsense and find it fun(I realise...but don't understand why :P).

See, Black Magic Woman is a pretty soft song, but it's so active that there's a greater sense of accomplishment when you nail the quick parts. So it's not necessarily softer songs that suck to play, but the simple ones.

Is it just me, or is the Sonic Youth song that's in GH3 one of THE worst songs every recorded?! It is honestly like someone is raping my ears.
