More clear than that it cant get,the dev has spoken its 720p now can we leave this now.

Jeez
Well, to be fair, that description reads more like an excuse/explanation as to why it's not really 720p than anything else.

@Jato. I appologize if he was responding to you. I saw no reason for him (sorry, kenshin, for talking about you in 3rd Person ;P ) to state that unless he felt whatever education it was he had would lend some weight to his/your position. I guess that is a hazard of off-topic remarks. That would put the misinterpretation on my end. But I wasn't using my experience as a back up so much as a counter-balance to the argument as I saw it. I have never used my qualifications as "back-up" before and I have been here a long time :P I have been critical of the facial animation( still hope it is work-in-progress), and I do think that in some places the movements are "over-acted" but, again, I don't see any issue with the animation quality itself.
Weak animation, for me is shit like Onichabara( or whatever it's called), Wet, No More Heroes, and the people in Halo 3. Those games have either wierd timing, jerky transitions, or both...

Yep, it's not what I would call "definitive" :D

I guess the resolution really just comes down to one thing and one thing only, looks.

If the game looks incredible, then the resolution is clearly not an issue. If people determine that the game does not look very good at all as they are playing it, then the resolution is a problem. All signs thus far point to everyone being more than satisfied with how good the game looks, unless we've been getting misled by Remedy/Microsoft with the video footage and live demos we've been shown, and also misled by the gaming press who would have failed to notifiy us of how "terrible" the game looks. I've seen forums where screenshots of Wii titles were compared to Alan Wake, a lot of craziness out there :D

But what can ya expect? Console Wars = serious business lol.

Alright, fair enough.

The reason I went in guns blazin' to your response is because I've read far too many times responses like: "I've got such and such qualifications, so I know what I'm talking about and therefor I'm correct and you're wrong". It just rubs me the wrong way.

Know what I find interesting about this game that hasn't been as thoroughly explored? There's an element to it that showcases Alan as dreaming, but then there is an element to it that clearly showcases when he is not.

All of these insane things that are taking place, I assume, can't possibly have been cleaned up and everything is all perfect in the town again come morning. This sets up some really very interesting story potential in this game. Then there's also the parts that showcase Alan clearly moving with others at, what appears to be, night.

There's obviously something supernatural going on, and if it's taking over the towns folk, then Alan is killing the towns people for real. There's so many ways the story can go. And while Alan may not seem as badass as Max Payne, I expect some pretty awesome storytelling.

We could have a situation where at the end of the game, Alan has killed every single person in this town, leading the Federal Government to move in at the end where they'd probably find that the famous thriller novel writer, Alan Wake, slaughtered an entire town of people.

You think the evil darkness is going to be purged and return the game's missing pixels, meaning the game will end in 720p native!?

lol, sorry I couldn't resist :)

Haha, it's pretty damn awesome, only made even more awesome by my perfect settings :D

So, in a sense, I can really say that my HDTV brings out the beauty in a game :)

Managing Director of Remedy Games: Matias Myllyrinnewas there to run us through a few levels of the game and explain the gameplay mechanics and story of Alan Wake. From what we saw last night the wait for Alan Wake has been well worth it. Graphically the game looks absolutely amazing, the attention to detail is outstanding. The story feels like it has a purpose and is very solid, Alan also has a support staff of NPC’s that help him through the game at certain parts with combat but also provide great storytelling and dialog conversations which breathes even more life into the game.

Most importantly the game-play is outstanding. Anyone who’s played Max Payne will feel right at home. Using their proprietary Remedy Engine called ”ALAN WAKE”, the movement and feel when controling Alan in combat is excellent, aiming your torch and using your selected weapon of choice to take down your enemies soon becomes second nature as the control system is amazingly easy to master. This is perfect as it makes playing through the game even more enjoyable. Unfortunately there is no Bullet-time but there are some special slow-mo moments that happen when you blow up your emenies with flares and other cool weapons, hard to explain in writing but trust me its a pleasure to see :)

80% of the way through, nothing new at all yet, just the dev talking about the game.

If Alan Wake is anything like Splinter Cell Conviction, another title that isn't native 720p, then it should look absolutely extraordinary on my HDTV with the settings that I have. I mean, the settings I have for my HDTV are just incredibly effective with regards to bringing out the best visual qualitys in a title. And if everything that we've been seeing and believing about Alan Wake for so long now ends up remaining true, then this game should be a very visually impressive title.

Splinter Cell Conviction, for example, for a sub hd game, has some of the most impressive looking textures I've seen. They are incredibly crisp, the texture filtering is amazing, subtle things like cracks or damages in the ground have an impressive illusioin of depth to them. Don't even get me started on the lighting and shadows in the game. Now, if Alan Wake is truly to be a game with a resolution as has been speculated by the pixel counters, then I expect the same awesome lighting, shadowing, textures, texture filtering and post processing as seen in Splinter Cell Conviction. I mean, say what you will about Conviction, and what some may think about how it holds up to some of the best looking games out there right now, but there are things done in that game that I feel are second to no other game out there.

They can only hope to be outdone with superior art or larger more epic environments.
