Its the number of people who signed on with the game in the disc tray(SP or MP), not the number of people playing it online and as it sold almost double of what Halo 3 achieved in december, I'm not all that suprised. Either way, still an amazing achievement to knock the monster off the top.

...and the same could just as easily be said for Halo 3's position on the charts. I don't think that COD4's 6 hour campaign is making up for the bulk majority of its playtime at this point.

Good for them really.. though personally I can't imagine going back to a modless version of the game. Vanilla COD4 is fine and all when it comes to pubbing.. it just isn't as well suited for league play without mods. It's a bit like playing Halo with pub rules versus playing it with the MLG set.

Infinity Ward Just released PC mod tools for COD4. Big news only because of the following statement.

One more thing, design your custom maps around your platform of choice, so just because you're mapping on the PC doesn't mean your maps have to be designed for Mouse and Keyboard, if you have a cool design you think would work great on the Xbox 360 or PS3 then make it happen, the possibilities are endless on where it could end up.


Now what this says to me, is that IW, will let the COD4 community do some of the legwork for them. Its already been stated that IW is doing its own official COD4 maps for DLC. But what the above statement says is that if you do a map with PC mod tools/editor and it is a well done map, that IW will work on it to be able to put it on 360 & PS3, not just for PC users. So I'd expect official maps from IW in Feb or March... user created maps built on the PC for the COD4 community... brought over to 360 Early Mid Summer.

Good Stuff. Hope this pans out for PS3 and 360. Most Excellent.

I see people are already working on Sharqi. It's only a matter of time before someone does Karkand.. I wonder if I should bother or if someone is just going to do it anyway :)

EDIT: I just played a couple of custom maps.. pretty cool. I just played mp_village and mp_subways--village was the cooler of the two. It sorta reminded me of an older COD level.. a bit more open and fairly large for COD4. That server also had quake/ut sounds, which is great. I've missed hearing "FIRST BLOOD!" and "KILLING SPREE!"

I didn't much care for that mods other alteration though--non-regenerative health. It wasn't so bad once I figured out that corpses dropped health packs, but taking a massive amount of fall damage that can't be replenished sucks.

Overall I'm impressed by how quickly the community is making use of the map tools, and I'm excited by the premise of COD2/CS/BF remakes, in addition to some fine originals of course :)

Zombies = hilarious. They definitely need to work out some balance issues though. There are so many cheap places to hide on the maps where the marines are practically invincible against a hoard of zombies. Still fun--but the combat knife is no energy sword--and hiding in hard to reach places makes it a little frustrating.

They won't.

There are plenty of people who actually believed that COD3 was a better game than COD2 though, so who knows, maybe the same trick will work twice :)

A lot of people won't even know that they are separate developers. I bought COD3 knowing it was Treyarch. I thought I would give the game a chance. Theres not a chance I will be buying their next game.

I think it's a a funny situation, I know Activision want to get into this yearly franchise marlarkey and I guess it's not as bad as forcing IW to make a game every year but ultimately, it dilutes the franchise taking this approach. Surely it would be better for Treyarch to develop their own IP/spin off using IW's tech if need be.

Same thing is happening to a lesser extreme with Guitar Hero.

7 million already, wauw!!! So that's what? 4m on Xbox 360, 2m on PS3, and probably about 1m on PC? And that probably doesn't even include all the online sales thru Steam etc.. And imagine the number if all these PC CoD4 gamers (and flashed Xbox 360 gamers) using "shared" keys bought the game aswell.. ;)

I hope IW will release a addon to CoD4, just like CoD:UO.. The sistuation is the same, CoD4 is bassicly a whole new game aswell, just like CoD was..

About CoD5, since that will not be on PC it will be non-existing for me.. Besides that it's not from IW, the only true makers of CoD.. And we don't need a new CoD every year.. Like I said, I'd much rather see a good addon to CoD4 to extend it's life, and make the game a big longlasting succes with the hardcore competitive community aswell.. Then in 2 years time orso IW can release a even better CoD6..

They released the editor on PC last week, so now it's just a matter of time before we'll see new custom maps and mods.. The better ones will take some time though, usually the 1st custom stuff to be released by the community is pretty much crap..

Some new official maps would be nice aswell offcourse.. I would like to see more Overgrown type maps..

mp_village is already a little Overgrown like. The first mods I played on COD4 were DAM/PAM, the competition mods, but there's already a zombie mode as well.

In the server browser set the mod filter to show you modded servers only--should be easy to find. I don't believe there are many zombie servers, but I know of at least one 24/7 zombie server that's pretty commonly populated. Here's a 58 man zombie server with 22 people currently playing: 64.34.213.105:28960--you can easily find it by looking in your Xfire under friends favorites under the servers tab as well :)

Check out the S2K pro pub when it's populated too, if you feel like seeing what the CAL rule set for the PAM mod are like. Good times.

I wish they would release patch v1.5 and fix the damn serverbrowser.. I have a 24Mbit internetconnection and refreshing the serverlist in CoD4 manages to lag me out (wtf?), and give wrong way to high pings on almost every server.. Before v1.4 it was fine..

Strange.. no issues here. My only complaint with the server browser is that it needs more filters. I really (really) hate hardcore mode, and there are dozens and dozens of HC S&D servers--I really don't understand why I can't filter them out from my searches. I'd say they're doing pretty well on keeping us up to date though.

Consider this: COD2 is currently on 1.3, and the original COD is 1.5.

It was so crazy. I went like 190-something kills and 120-something deaths--I think the first place holder had over 400 kills. Basically you had to fight to even escape a spawn point, and to get your chopper out, since everyone was trying to call them after the last one left the map (you couldn't possibly shoot them down)--my whole "strategy" was simply to get into the middle of the map, take aim at a spawn point, and unload an entire magazine from my AK-74U. This would sometimes result in 15 kill streaks within a matter of seconds.

I hate shipment with far fewer people, but I got some strange satisfaction out of the insanity. It's probably the craziest, most out of control deathmatch round I've ever experienced.

Shipment is awesome! Play a knife and nades only game and you'll see what fun is all about! Is honestly better than Halo swords, I swear.
