I dont care if its the same city or not this game if the gameplay its like the first but more badass it would be a EPIC game.

You know if you care about where you are making destruction you are playing the game wrong IMO.

Half the time in the first I didnt even know where the hell I was =) I was busy causing mayhem like crazy.

One of the problems I had with Crackdown was it got pretty boring pretty quickly. Revisiting the same city, even though it will be modified, may expediate the boredom.

But hey, it might not as well. Fingers crossed it doesn't.

New information from IGN:
As the teaser trailer suggested, The city that you first cleared of organized gangs has succumbed to a nasty viral outbreak, causing ordinary citizens to turn bloodthirsty. Not even the shadowy Agency could control it, and so sections of the idealistic metropolis have been abandoned to riots and revolt. For the sequel, you'll return to Pacific City, but it won't be the same place you got to know during the first go around. Familiar sites will be present, but many will be in disarray and shambles, while new buildings have sprung up amidst the chaos.
Crackdown 2 once more follows the central goal of cleansing the city, but the repetition is said to be less prevalent. Ruffian told GameInformer, "Your influence in the world has effects across the rest of the city." And your influence will be made apparent through a more varied set of missions. You'll even head underground to tackle the infected as they hide from the light. And once night hits, you can expect the entire city to be a nightmare.
The same five skills that could be leveled up in Crackdown make a return, though each offers new abilities this time. The agility skill is said to offer a dash move, while driving can unlock a special helicopter. Depending upon who you're fighting, you might wish you had specific talents. GameInformer reports that the Cell will come at you like your typical gang from Mad Max: rough around the edges and loaded with weapons. The zombie-esque freaks, meanwhile, will naturally use their numbers to the best of their ability. Thomson is quoted as saying that, "The top level freaks are almost on par with the player-controlled agent."

To deal with these new challenges, new weapons will naturally make an appearance. GameInformer describes a few of these, such as a UV Shotgun that blasts the infected with light, a better sniper rifle, and the "mag" grenade that will stick whatever it hits to another "mag." These magnetic weapons also are said to work on cars, enabling players to do wacky things with them.

Honestly, after reading this I don't care about the city anymore. I really want to know how the game plays out especially at night. Actually now I'm more hyped about this than I am for any other title in 2010. ^^

New Interview\Hands-on
We were lucky enough to visit Ruffian in Dundee last month. The two builds we saw showed enough to confirm that Pacific City’s undergone some huge changes. While the sequel’s set on the same map, we’re now in a post-apocalyptic setting. The Agency gained control at the end of the original, then quickly lost it. A civilian splinter group called the Cell, effectively a terrorist organisation, is calling the shots. The Agency is playing a weak third in the power stakes to the Cell and the Freaks, the mutants that appear near the end of Crackdown.

We’ll wrap up all the detail in a feature tomorrow. In short, it feels like Mad Max on brick-dust smack; it’s got four-way co-op for the entire campaign; nine huge, completely new, underground areas with an “underworld population”; co-op vehicles; new types of orbs; a new hand-to-hand fighting system; fully-featured multiplayer, including modes like Rocket Tag; it’ll be locked at 30fps; Skills are now limited to five levels; and nope, there’s no release date.

Check back in the morning for the preview and play impressions. For now, though, hit the link for our massive interview with Ruffian’s creative director, Billy Thomson, and the game’s producer, James Cope. We’ve put this up in two parts: get the second bit here. There are new screens here.

Interview by Patrick Garratt.

VG247: The obvious one, as far as I’m concerned: there was no real reason in the in the first game to beef up your car powers, and loads of people finished without ever attending to them. What are you doing in the second game to make sure they work properly?

Billy Thomson: To make sure people actually use cars?

I don't like the fact that this game looks to be stuck in the past as far as technology goes. It looks exactly like Crackdown 1.

I love the shots where the colours really pop. I think the palette of the original Crackdown makes it pretty visually timeless.

I hope they don't dull that sensation with too much grittyness and messed up-ness in this, and if they do I hope those visual elements make a cohesive, interesting whole in a way that meshes well with other trademark Crackdown traits.

I'm disappointed in this sequel. I had high hopes when they announced it, but it looks--and not just visually--dull. They did quite a few things on the online side of things, but the single player really sounds like an expansion rather than a sequel.

I think it'll be a good game, but I don't think it'll add much of anything to the prequel. We'll see how this game does without a Halo beta tagged along, it may be the last we see of this franchise for a long time to come.

I think of Crackdown as a singular experience though. It's a bit like.. they had a specific idea for what they wanted to do with that, did it, and pretty much nailed it. Anything you do with a second game that is notably extravagant is likely to pull in some direction away from what the original attempted.

So for me, creating a new game with largely the same direction is fine. I had a blast with Crackdown (and I played it a few months ago) and I'm fine with 2 just giving me a tuned version of it that capitalises on - and develops - what people gravitated towards.

Elaborate story? Linear mission design? I mean what can you really do with it without essentially breaking what makes it Crackdown? You could re-invent it entirely, but who does that benefit when the first is a cult fave and its fans are the only ones likely to be passionate about it.

Graphics comparison between Crackdown 1 and 2. There are a few more if you follow the link of the post. And for anyone who might have missed it (I did), here is a new Episode from the makers.

I'm torn, tbh. On the one side I really like the new additions to the sandbox. The weapons and vehicles look fun and 4 player coop should take everything to a new level. Also the graphics seem to be improved, the edges seem to be smoother with added motion blur and a draw distance rarely seen in video games. On the other side it's the same city. Some places don't seem to have changed at all. Some do (like the tall buildings on the Asian part of the city).

I'll get the game regardless, but I can't deny my anticipation is already spoilt.

lol, the graphics are almost the same exact thing as I feared. I don't know how that is anywhere near excusable, it's pathetic really. It would be like releasing Halo Reach with H3's graphics, lol.

the textures actually look worse in the new one. lower res and blurry. i can't believe the geometry is exactly the same tho, that's just rediculous. at least put SOME effort into it.

i'm interested to see how well it does tho. i actually bought crackdown FOR crackdown back when it came out, but i know a LOT of people bought it for the halo 3 beta. i'd be interested to see how it does without such an addition.

Yeah, and I also bought Crackdown for itself. I really liked the game, but I can't seem to get excited for this.

The first game looked lazy, and played lazy. This game seems even more lazy because it's a sequel to a previously, in my view, lazy game.

There's potential to actually take a serious stab at a GTA competitor, even if a significantly less higher quality one, they aren't even doing that. No signs of any story, no creative GTA style missions for our super soldier to engage in, with approproiate challenges for our enhanced skill set, none of that crap. It's nonsense like climb this, climb that. Oh, hey look, you can toss someone in the air and shoot at them with a rocket launcher.

Only good thing Crackdown ever did was the really cool lock on system for different parts of the human body or different parts of a vehicle. You can target legs, arms, tires, gas tanks also, if I remember correctly. I thought that was an interesting innovation, if it was indeed the first game to do it, that is.

The first one was not lazy in almost any regard (the story being the only lazy part). It was a great game. It had some awesome, and true character progression. Your abilities changed, your character changed, access to vehicles changed, etc. It changed how the game played throughout the game, and it kept rewarding you with cooler and upgraded vehicles that could do things they couldn't do originally.

Then there is the fact that it had that *something* about collecting orbs. I can't remember the last time a game felt engaging enough for me to spent hours in a non-essential task. It's easy to see why though, the game meaningfully rewarded you for doing so. So watch your mouth boy :P
