The first one was not lazy in almost any regard
Mission variety and structure was horribly lazy.

Once the fun of jumping everywhere wore off, I found the game to be pretty damn boring.

Agreed. Great sandbox gameplay, but a bullshit campaign. If they fix this single issue, Crackdown 2 will be a helluva game.

I actually disagree with this. Crackdown 1 was a great game to me because of the co-op gameplay. It is clear from the developer videos that they have put a lot of focus into this aspect of the game like increasing the player count to 4 etc. This, for me, means that this game is automatically going to be awesome. I really don't give a hoot about the single player campaign.

I played the game co-op and the world still felt very bland. You can either A) cause a ruckus, or B) do essentially the same mission a billion times. With games like RDR on the market, I think sandbox experiences are begging for more depth. I had a lot of fun on the first island and then couldn't be bothered to even finish the game. As much as some people (see above) like to rip on GTA4, I still think it was entertaining throughout, despite some serious flaws. And now R* has raised the bar again with RDR.

When you consider that it's essentially the same map (granted, I already see new buildings in those comparisons!), they definitely need to give you more stuff to do. Jumping around and raising hell gets old.

Don't get me wrong, the basics are hella fun, but I just think the game needs a lot more variety. It's not the worst offender in the genre (FC2!), but it's what holds it back from being a truly epic sandbox for me.

No.
Yes, and that's not debatable.

There are many things wrong with Crackdown 2, but copying Rockstar's fundamentally broken formula isnt a way to fix it, it would only make things wrong. Hopefully it'll still be a joy to play.

edit:fixed the mistake

Nah, it's still just as LOL worthy a statement. You're entitled to your opinion and all, but the fact that you think that GTA4's mission structure is so bad that it becomes objective fact is ridiculous. Not just funny, but fundamentally broken. I get into hot water all the time for my strong opinions, but at least I don't go around pretending like they're not my opinion.

Not that I was trying to debate that with you. We've been down that road in the "What's up" box, and it was as circular a discussion as one could have.

Do you think Red Dead Revolver is awful too? That would be even richer.

I haven't played RDR (and have no intentions after reading CVG's review) and tend not to judge games I haven't played, so I can't tell.

regarding GTA4's missions, lol no they're no creative at all, all repetetive linear bullcrap that hasn't changed since GTA3, calling them creative is abuse of the word and we both know it I didn't say they can't be enjoyable for some, but they're not creative.

Actually, they aren't all repetitive, and linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Besides just not liking GTA4, you haven't said what was "fundamentally broken" about their formula.

lol...sounds like you're judging it unworthy of being played after reading a single review.

Yeah, they aren't all repetetive. One standout 15 minutes mission in a 30 hours game! Yay! (Iplayed roughly 2/3 of GTA4 and I haven't seen one, but I can believe that they get better at the end of the game). As for GTA series flaws, I discussed it a 1000 times and I'm not going to bother to discuss it a 1001th time. The fact is it's a Crackdown 2 thread and all I'm saying making Crackdown games more similat to GTA would make them worse, not better. Crackdown needs evolution, but in a different direction.

I'm not saying it's unworthy, I'm saying I'm not interested.

The use of the word "repetitive" while praising Crackdown is nothing short of ironic. It's a good game and all, but any mission structure and variety would be a huge improvement.

That's not to say that I would dislike an improved campaign. Of course I would like the campaign to be improved. To me that would just be icing on an already awesome cake though.

i just hope the vehicles actually have some use in the second game. the vehicles in the first where so pointless it was actually a chore leveling them up. they need something more then just races.

The game still had more variety than GTA4, because you could at any given point of time choose multiple activities to do ie. collecting orbs, taking out bosses, doing stunts, collecting achievements etc. of which vast majority were fun. In GTA4 only driving was good, all other gameplay mechanics were crap so I really couldn't enjoy the sandbox part of the game. Missions were pretty bad, too, so there wan't anything interesting to do in Liberty City.

Now, I'm not saying that good missions and mission structure aren't welcome in Crackdown 2, because I would love to see them in the game. GTA shouldn't serve as a reference material though, Mercs 1 could to an extent (technically that game was also about "take down all the bosses", but did it in a completely different style;)).
