Wouldn't it have been absolutely badass if one of the things they locked in the Mage class is the ability to turn into a dragon like Flemeth? I mean if I'm going to be an apostate then why not go all the way? And what a way that would have been to reward the player who picks the Mage class. Unfortunately, the Shapeshifting specialization is gone as well. I was kind of hoping Bioware would have expanded upon that specialization, allowing us to turn into giant wolves, hawks (after the character's namesake) and of course dragons.

I guess with the majority of the game taking place in Kirkwall, Bioware felt this specialization was no longer needed :(
The info page on Mages mentions the fact that Kirwall is home to Mages that fav the 'Force Mage' spec, so you could be right?

As someone who put 40 hours into Dragon Age 1, is this 2 gig demo worth downloading?

Some love it, some dont.
Nobody can give you a proper yay or nay until You in your heart have the wish to try it.

IMO, try it and form your own opinion around it, just let it download and do something else while doing so.
You already know my opinion on the entire game so I dont have to say it :)

Well we don't need to see any advance images of the Force Mage's skill tree to know what that specialization is all about. But I don't think a telekinetic specialization would have shapeshifting mixed in just for the fun of it.

The demo certainly has divided the Dragon Age community a bit. Two weeks ago at Bioware Social there was lots of enthusiasm all the way around, after the demo there's some notable grumbling over the new combat system and diminished role playing elements.

It isn't fair to judge the game on this demo though, it lasts just under 40 minutes and skips around too much. But that shouldn't put you off from trying it out yourself. If you have the space on your drive you should give it a go and satisfy your own curiosity.

Dont forget that the demo has locked out MANY great features like character customization, inventory menu (you get additional outfits and weapons in the demo) and locked out major big skills.

Its very hard to say its good or sucks on a demo for a RPG.
RPGs gets much better by half way through the game because its then when all the best items, weapons, abilities...etc. is unlocked.

I dont understand why ME demo had customization for your character available while DA2 doesnt, wtf :(
I want to see if they have improved the beard shapes to a more realistic and proper shapes or not for my male Hawke, the ones in DA Origins sucked ALOT that I was forced to use a damn stubble which I did not like!

I want this beardstyle in the game! (dont mind the shitty photoshop LOL)

My beard is exactly like that in real life so I want that in the game :P (yes that long)
They had a similair style in DA Origins but that looks absolutely like shit :/
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/Funkyogre/b...

When you shape the face and change to beard the entire shape of the face will be automatically reconstructed to a damn crackheaded zombie.
Many people have complained about this and that the shape of the beards are crap, so this is why I am eager to know/see what they have done with it.
I was hoping to see it in the demo but the bastards locked it out for some odd reason.

Do not dissapoint me Bioware, this is the only thing that is making me worried.

There is no new combat system, there has just been some flashier animations added, other than that the combat plays the exact same on the consoles as DA.O did, and the only diff on the PC is the loss of the Top Down view, which i know is a biggie for the pc crowd.

The only thing different in combat on consoles from what I experience is faster and cooler animations, and some enemies are one hit kills with proper powerful abilities.
Also, tapping the default to keep attacking, but I read that that be on auto as well if you so wish, like Origins.

Yeah that's basically what i said, also they added the ability to move the camera all around the combat area whilst you have it paused.

The combat system is relatively new dc, Bioware simply brought over the auto attack and tactics from DA:O. But I'm not one of those individuals complaining about the extra button mashing, DA's combat NEEDED revamping. And while I would have preferred a fully engaged real-time combat system with blocking and parrying, this is what Bioware gave us, and despite it's tedium it IS an improvement.

Since the Mage's staffs are now fully utilized as melee weapons that can kill either bluntly or with slashing/stabbing motions, it might have been a good idea to give the Mage's some sort of skill set that magically enhances their physical attacks with the staff. Just a thought.

This is true, which is why I'm just waiting for some reviews. The main issue with me now that I've seen most of the skill sets is what kind of depth is being offered in DA2. Bioware has done alot of things to attract this so called "broader audience" that will apparently like the anime style combat, the diminished role playing elements, the scaled back UI and skill sets, and of course the female characters that are ridiculously objectified with slinky movement and enormous breasts. lol! FINE. Just make sure that it's still the same deep, well thought out universe that we appreciated so much in the first.

Oh and here's where I saw some of the specializations revealed-

I dont understand why they changed the UI though? Looked much better before, now its just "meh".
I also like that they have skill tree now in various options rather than how it was on Origins.

Artstyle was better in Origins IMO than now.

Anyways, can't wait for next week :)

Grim all the devs hated stated interviews that the combat remains simlar to DAO with the difference being that now when you press a button instant action occurs, and when I played the demo I played it exactly the way I played DAO so I'd have to agree with DCDel.

Bioware's Ian Mitchell confirmed today at GDC that Dragon Age 2 will be significantly shorter. Here's how the numbers break down in comparison-
Dragon Age: Origins

* 1,000,000 Words
* 1,000 Cinematics
* 1,000 Characters
* 56,000 Spoken Lines
* 60 Hours of Gameplay

Dragon Age II

* 400,000 Words
* 2,500 Cinematics
* 500 Characters
* 38,000 Spoken Lines
* 40 Hours of Gameplay
The length of the game doesn't bother me, 40hrs is still quite respectable for an RPG these days. But it looks like the majority of DA2's story will obviously be told through those narrative cut scenes, and it looks like just about everything else got seriously scaled back from the previous game. These numbers actually make sense as there are no other character origins, that would easily mean less story, less characters, and less game time. Again it make sense but that doesn't mean I like it. lol It looks like players will be watching DA2 more than they will be playing it.

*sigh* How much of Dragon Age did you leave us with Bioware?

Its the EA effect!!

A few early reviews have stated that the story/characters and combat are great, so at least i'll be happy with that, but i have a feeling this game will have DLC packages galore! EA strikes again.

Yeah, I've seen some early reviewers, they all say good things about it. I'm also getting the strong impression that DA2 will be MUCH easier to play than Origins no matter what difficulty level you set. The classes and their corresponding skill sets seem designed for massive carnage, one hit kills that take out scores of enemies at time.

If DLC packs means that we get specializations like Shapeshifter returned to us then fine, I always view DLC as purchase only what you want and value content anyway. But it does suck that it seems more and more that we gamers are not purchasing "whole games" anymore. Instead games are just parsed out to us like bread crumbs. :P
