I wonder if the Spartan will be in DOAX2 as well? Of course, she'll be in the full body armor with a bikini on top of it. :P

I stole this from another forum

The only reason you need 13 or 14 miles of ingame geometry draw distance is if you are gonna have HUGE EPIC WARS. /me drools
---

Over at Bungie.net, Frankie and co. have put up a feature noting that they have returned to Washington (and missed most of the cool stuff we got to watch from E3)
Here

Apparently, they were worried enough about crashes and accidents, since they were running real time, to do this:
We actually had six debugs all told. Three for the E3 briefing at the theater and three for something we did later. The three at the conference were the main unit - Harold Ryan our studio manager sat patiently backstage, waiting to press "A" after Bill Gates' speech. A dirty little secret was that he pressed "A" on two controllers simultaneously. That way if one of the boxes was accidentally unplugged, or broke, or gasp - crashed, the projector would switch seamlessly to the second Xbox and hopefully nobody would notice.
On the engine side of things:
Marcus showed off the new engine's lighting system, the self-shadowing and realtime reflection on the Chief, and the fact that we can draw geometry out to about 13 or 14 (game) miles. There was other stuff, but we'll talk about that later.
And posted earlier in their FAQ, for those who missed it on the previous page:
Halo 3's graphics will include the features seen in the real-time trailer and more, these are rendered using a new graphics engine, making the most of next-gen features like HDR (High Dynamic Range) lighting, pre-computed radiance transfer, and much, much more.

Where can i see an example of PCR?

Edit:- Found one, it's just the reflection of lighting.. pretty neat i suppose.

PRT. An introduction.
Precomputed Radiance Transfer (PRT) is a technique used to render a scene in real time with complex light interactions precomputed. Radiosity can be used to determine the diffuse lighting of the scene, however PRT offers a method to dynamically change the lighting environment.

In essense, PRT computes the illumination of a point as a linear combination of incident irradiance. An efficient method must be used to encode this data, such as Spherical harmonics.
An example: http://swap.poupe.net/gi/

Also check out this ATI lecture on it: "Precomputed Radiance Transfer and Spherical Harmonic Lighting Techniques for Games" by Chris Oat.

A demo for those with NV hardware http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=13816&howmanycomme...

I found these videos of next gen shader/lighting features and what we can expect from next gen games

Kind of off-topic but interesting none the less.

You are right Acert there are going to be some absolute HUUUGE wars and we got a new engine baby!

Seriously with graphics like this who WONT buy halo 3?.... even many ps3 fanatics that wont admit to it will buy the thing. Acert do you foresee this halo smashing the previous record set by halo 2 of 125 million dollars on day one? Man this game is going to rock....

When people see what the hell halo 3 is capable of I don't think people will hesititate to pick up the 360 version of game of the next GTA. Seriously GTA, Halo, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Too Human (yes its still on the list I know the game will rock when its done) all those amazing games together.

Wow.. nice find jolli look at you making yourself useful :) Thats a good thing though I might feel the need to beat you up in doa 4 some more :P I didn't play it in so long, but once I took the first couple attacks from ya I remembered how to play then unleashed the beast within :)

This game engine uses PRT too. Watch this SWEET backyard demo:

http://files.filefront.com/3639995

This is from the reality engine by artificial studios. The above link ran at 35fps on a Radeon 9700. They have a VERY nice mansion video too. Their gallery (tech demos at the bottom). Cell Factor, Monster Madness, and Metranome use this engine. Their lead programmer/owner got scooped by Epic and I think the company was sold back to some of the staff.

You can see why peeps are upset seeing a 9700 do this. The issue is software, not hardware. Devs are leveraging last gen techniques on next gen hardware :/

Anyhow, all these small things add up.

If Artificial Studios, Wardevil, and Project Offset can do this stuff on inferior hardware -- then larger devs should be doing this + more.

That backyard demo is awesome I also checked out the videos you linked to as well jolli.

God I love bungie. Just think... Halo 3 could potentially graphically massacre most next gen games for awhile. Bungie said that trailer they ran in realtime they took from a part of the game. About 1/3 of the way into the game or so they say.

Yeah that backyard demo was cool and that Nvidia Lady of Dark Autumn was really weird..

And sure the Halo 3 trailer was cool, but it will be surpased in a matter of a year or so which is even more exciting .. :)

If they are going to have large co-op battles?
Then the master cheif will have to team up with the covenant (Elites) seeing as there's only one spartan left.

I still don;t understand how there is only one Spartan left. By the end of First Strike, Chied is traveling to earth with 3 (I think, could have been even 4) other Spartans. No where have I heard that they died and I would find it hard to believe that they are dead. The end of First Strike is almost immediately preceding Halo 2. So...

Maybe something happened in between that caused their death or maybe they just got seperated. Bungie did say the scene from the realtime trailer is about 1/3 into the game.

Maybe in the earlier part of the game you pick up where you left off in halo 2 (playable) and you see what takes place with the other spartan maybe they didn't die, maybe they just got seperated from you at the beginning then died later on who knows for sure.

i wouldn't get your hopes up about other spartans. there has been no mention of them in the previous 2 games. only way i can see them doing it is if they introduce them in the movie and the release of the game follows after the movie.
