the aliasing on the car is pretty bad, just like it was on PRG, also the game feel lifeless. yes its a straight up racing sim, but you expect to see some sort of off track movement, its just plain dead. hopefully it'll be a case of the full game being FAR superiour to the demo, cos as it stands, forza 2 aint very good.

haha I don't know what game you're playing, but racing on that track against those cars doesn't feel too lifeless. I mean what do you expect from a simple track environment? flying leaves? Swaying trees? People diving out into the middle of the street?

lol I'm doing that RIGHT NOW

Only I'm not doing it on the track I'm in the grass

Once you nail the vehicle handling its so satisfying. I managed to stay with them for 2 laps before going 100MPH into a wall =P

And graphically there are significantly better looking games coming: Bioshock, DMC, Halo 3, HL2 Orange, PGR4, Mass Effect, and so forth. For those on limited budgets wanting killer games with killer looks to go with it -- what you expect from 1st party exclusive software -- then 2007 is your year.
You should not predict why people buy 360s. I didn't buy* 360 because it was cheaper than PS3 but because I like companies like Bungie, Bioware or Rare way more than I like Naughty Dog or Resistance. I think that's the case with most people here. People with limited budgets buy consoles when they're 199$ or cheaper.

*I actually I got one, but I was going to buy it anyway.

I'm not impressed by DMC4 at all I saw some cool scenes I liked here and there, but overall not impressed. Bioshock looks amazing, Halo 3 I know is going to look great, but regardless of what it ends up looking like I'll buy it. Mass Effect looks stunning hopefully they can optimize it, but who cares I'll buy anyway. PGR4 will most likely look good, but I have a strong feeling some here will be disappointed graphically by what they see if it doesn't make the type of visual jump they were expecting.

HL2 Orange I'm not interested in, but yea it looks great.

I'm just dropping a comment before I go back to playing the demo, but acert why do you think people interested in forza motorsport 2 in the first place would care that there are better looking games coming? Especially when the games you listed are in an entirely different genre. Maybe that better games coming thing will work on people that are way too obsessed with graphics and as such choose which games they'll based on those graphics, but to people that care most about the game itself such logic isn't going to fly. "There are significantly better looking games coming.." yea we know, but what does that have to do with Forza 2 the racing sim?

Ok. I downloaded the demo and played AT LEAST 25 races.

In term of the demo, I think it is a good demo, lots of cars to choose from, and we can watch the--awful--replays.

I think they should have made it a bit harder though, I find it impossible to lose in the lower two classes, I was playing with every car in the order they are and I only placed second while driving the freaking tail-happy Sagaris. In R class, once you pass them, they are officially gone, really easy to win. One mistake is a bit more painful here than in lower classes, but just a bit.

Anyways. The gameplay is incredible. The sound is incredible. The graphics are........the graphics.........kind of suck so into the generation.

Cars drive beautifully, great physics all around. I had lots of fun with the R class, those are a pleasure to drive. Man that McLaren simply sticks to the road! Now, how come the Corvette is always in second place (I'm always in first!) when that's the car that sucks the most in that class? I don't know.

The AI is of course much improved, I no longer fear getting hit from the back by a stupid car that was simply not going to make the turn anyways (Forza 1), now they actually care. There's still room for improvement though, they don't often look back, and they really don't care what goes on behind them, that is, they'll get in your way at times.

Sound is incredible, especially on the loud R cars. I did have to lower the sound of the tires a couple of levels, it can get annoying.

And the graphics. So after November 2005, we get;

720p instead of 600p(?)
60 fps instead of 30fps
and better damage.........

Is that enough? Hell no, not for me. The difference in resolution is minimal, and when you consider that cars in that other game have about double the details of those in Forza 2, there's in-game motion blur, the best lighting in a 360 racing game by far (HDR), and incredible attention to detail on tracks filled with spectators.

I was simply not impressed in the least. And I'm not even going to talk about physics difference because that's just a silly excuse and Acert has explained that already.

Other than that, the replays FREAKING SUCK, THE REPLAYS FREAKING SUCK ASS.

I think you'll find Forza is physically simulating a huge amount more than PGR3 ever did.

I think the replays really need some TV style cameras instead of the floating and rotating nonsense.

So...Iv never really played this kind of racing game before. Im pretty good at PGR and I can handle the cars in FM2 fine. I just dont understand when Im supposed to be taking over cars. Can anyone offer me insight ? It always seems like a bad time to try and pass them. Great game though hehe.

Because awesome graphics was promissed and hyped by T10/Microsoft itself. The game just looks bad for todays demands, nothing more to say about. When PGR3 hits the market everybody was a little disappointed about the graphics and expected much more from a nextgen console. Now, everybody is amazed by PGR3's graphics because no other racer can keep up with PGR3's graphics (at least in redars to the environments).
It's just some kick in the ass of all 360 customers that have waited so long to get a real nextgen racer. Up to now all Microsoft game studios were known for providing excellent quality and that they deliver what they've said or showed. But now, this puts some hard lack of credibility to T10, they've promissed things that they can't nearly deliver.

Regarding to the demo: If that is from the final game why is there no hood view for that lamborghini?

The safest time to take car is on the straights or just before turns on the outside lane

In the demo it is extremely easy to overtake in the straight(s). Other than that, always brake after them, and I personally like to always take the inside of the turn, outside is always more risky and takes longer.

I just put a couple of hours into the demo. I'm impressed with the handling / gameplay overall. They seem to have nailed that. There is certainly [lots of] room for improvement when it comes to the games visuals.. but we all already knew that.
PGR4 will most likely look good, but I have a strong feeling some here will be disappointed graphically by what they see if it doesn't make the type of visual jump they were expecting.
PGR4 is going to look way better than this game.. but they're pretty different games and while there are plenty of people who are interested in both (I certainly am) there is definitely a crowd that this type of "Carpg" sim appeals to. If you can't even make it around the track once without spinning out of control, Forza's probably not the racer for you.. but if you're into the gear head doll house approach (and GT/Forza 1's performance indicates that plenty of people are) than this game is going to be hard to beat for a while. Tuning and customization are a big part of what makes this game interesting.. and the demo is a lot of fun without it.

It's just not going to win any awards for the eye candy.. and Turn10 shares some of the responsibility for making people think that it would -- CG movies are a great way to mismanage expectations.

Anyway.. great demo. This game will be mine.

CG movies are a great way to mismanage expectations.
T10 claimed that the CGI movies were rendered with ingame assets. So the game is going to look like from the trailer just without that high AA and lighting. It's not just a simple missunderstanding, they've simply lied about almost everything. Look at Sebring from the trailer and compare with it from all the gameplay videos. Do they look nearly equal? Same ingame assets? Sebring looks horrible and even not better than a lastgen game (just in higher resolution).

Well anyone expecting the game to look anything like the CG trailer was probably expecting a bit much.. but they should be aware of what they're doing by releasing that sort of video. I mean we've seen other companies go through this time and time again.. what makes people think it's wise to poorly manage the expectations of their target audience?

That's really all water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. I didn't mind how Motorstorm or F1:CE turned out (visually, at least) despite the bullshots and the bull-videos.. so I won't be harping on that issue too much anymore.

It is what it is. Forza 2 is not the best looking racing game out there. But damn that demo is fun -- and it's only a portion of what will make the end product appealing.

If you compare some pictures from photomode or replays they have at times this feeling CGI trailers had. The difference in picture quality and lighting is tremendous, but that was obvious to begin with.

It was obvios that the final game cannot keep with the level of AA or the lighting. But this is not my main concern, but all those assets. Everything looks like from a XBOX 1 game (the wheels on the side of the street, the bad ground visuals, the bad building textures, the bad car textures). And when they've stated things like 3D grass that was even showed at X06 i had no doubt that the grass of Sebring looks like from the trailer. But look at the bad graphics now, it's even far behind the graphics of the X06 demo.

Maybe you're right, It's quite sad that the game ended up graphically as it did. It will still sell probably well and get high reviews, but I think we'll never believe Turn 10's PR. At least now that they have engine up and running we should get real-time trailer at first announcement of FM3 and no dellusional statements. I hope so.
